Why does my dog keep having seizures?

Searchbared and didn't find anything. So my dog has been having a seizure at least weekly if not more frequent for the past few months now. We've taken her to the vet and all blood work is ok, she's in at least average health. She's only about 5 so its not like this is an old age thing. I probably should note that she did have some sort of traumatic accident before we got her so it possibly could be related to that.
If anybody has experienced anything like this with their dog, any advice or information would be appreciated. Literally anything, if it ended up being their food brand, some medication they were on etc., thanks.

My dog also had this problem, I'll post later when I remember what it was. i think it was hard water or something

What kind of dog do you have? I have a Siberian Husky, and she had some pretty frequent seizures last year, all about a month from each other. Have you tried switching what food you feed your dog? Also, is there anything perhaps in your yard that may be doing it?

She's a German Shepard/ Chow mix, and she's been on various foods in the time we've had her but we haven't seen any relation to a certain brand and seizures. She does however take a liquid flea medication that goes on her skin and before they got more frequent we did feel as though they were happening just after we gave her it, now they're whenever. It's probably diet related and age-induced. 

Stop giving the dog people food if you are doing that now.  Also I'd suspend all treat giving until you can nail down what causes it.

Well alright, so seizures are due to something neurological no matter how you want to put it. However, I would first see if decreasing or stopping the flea medication reduces the seizures. If you do see a direct correlation then you know thats probably what it is. Could also possibly be due to low blood calcium, or a myriad of other things. Depending on how severe these seizures get, you need to be a bit more forward with the veterinarian. Dandy, his blood work is fine, means his organs arent failing, but you still need to get to the root of the problem. If the seizures last for an extended period of time, 5 minutes or more, get him to the vet immediately. But otherwise, if the seizures persist what the vet will normally do is give an injection of phenobarb, which reduces the frequency of seizures. However, once you start the dog on phenobarb its basically a lifelong thing that you need to keep getting. Now, I'm not a veterinarian, but my dad has been for 35 years and I have worked at his clinic for the past 2 summers working in on appointments and whatnot, so this just comes from remembering what he does to treat seizures. yup my dog has epilepsy. Your situation sounds pretty similar. We have him on Phenobarbitol i think and it's helped alot. Over a year since his last seizure

Just found out that she hasn't taken it since September so we know that's not it. Problem is that there are so many possibility's that its hard to narrow it down. Also we don't want to put her on something she's going to have to stay on until we know what it is. But thank you to all, helped a lot.

My aunt and uncles dog has the same issues and it turned out that in the dogs family there was a history of seizures. They now have a pill that you have to stick up the dogs butt if it goes into one of its spells. I would suggest you try and get those. Some vets don't know what the fuck they are talking about.

definitely diet related. one of my dogs (a feist) went through the same thing last year and it enden up being that there was too much grain in his diet. sounds kinda odd and insignificant, but i'd look into it or ask a vet if i were you. its a pretty simple fix.

my dog had a seizure at about 5. we had no idea what was going on and were far from help so he was fine before we got to the vet. Then he had them quite frequently for awhile so we got these pills that you stick up his but if he has a seizure. He kind of outgrew them though. maybe once a year till he was like 10, and never anymore.

Lots of reasons dogs get seizures too many to list but most common causes could be genetics, brain tumor or hemmorhage, hormone or chemical imbalances, neurological damage or anomaly etc. take your dog to a vet. Whatever is causing it, a seizure is triggered when certain neurological pathways in the brain begin randomly firing their neurons over and over. lots of things can cause this to happen and I doubt anybody on ns can tell what it is.

Definitely ask your vet about this. It was prescribed to my beloved husky, and all seems to be well. Also, what flea medication is it? Both of my dogs receive Frontline on a monthly basis with no issues.

My buddies dog has seizures, she's a pitbull jack russel mix. She will have like 3 in a row and when comes out of it, she doesn't remember anything and attacks anybody near by. Pretty sketchy since she has foam coming out of her mouth while she chases you around. Then she bangs her face in her food for a few minutes then she goes and watches tv.

Brain tumors can also cause seizures in dogs. If they are interrupting the nervous system or somethin.

seizures started occurring in my dog.

brain tumour. she passed shortly after.
