Quick question for anyone that live in the bay area of California.

How cold does it generally get at the beginning of december? I'm flying out and will be in san fran from the 5th-9th.

Going to try to go with just a backpack since bags coast extra + I don't want to lug around a bag once I check out of the hotel on the 9th and wander around the city till my flight leaves.


Also it just occurred to me that maybe I don't want to wonder around with nowhere that's warm till the late evening. Almost booked a flight out at 11:30 pm to maximize my time out there without having to get another hotel but then realized it might be fucking cold.

I'm from the mountains in northern NY and used to it being dumb cold. I'm not a bitch in terms of cold, but also don't really want to be walking around in it with nowhere warm to go.


Not drinking probably so I can't just kick it in a bar. I guess worst case if it gets too cold I could just go to the airport early.

If I can fit a ski jacket and pants into my bag you think that will be enough to keep me from dying in a ditch at the bottom of one of those hills?

Good call. Figured the wind from the coast would probably have a big impact too.

I think I might just skip the wondering and get the fuck out of there mid day after I check out of the hotel.

Go to a movie theatre to kill the time worst case scenario.

I did this in Seattle en route to Vancouver to watch my Bruins win Game 7 last year. Had to spend a night on the street too not wait until 1130 basically my flight got in around 9pm and train left at 8am. I got in, walked around, went to 2 bars until close, went to China town and ate chinese food till I got tossed out, and then there were 2/3 sketchy ass hours where I just wanted to make sure I was chilling near security cameras by a subway station. After that starbucks opened so chilled in there for an hour or two and then caught my train.

If you're too cheap for a movie hit up McDonalds for free wifi.

Lots of homeless people in San Francisco though so might not be an ideal place for this you might be best kicking it at the airport.

word. I like this idea. good way to kill a few hours. Could do it up in the middle to recharge my warmth, then go back out into the world.

I just love to wonder and explore, I just don't want to fuck myself by kicking it all day in the cold without a place to go, a car, and probably not enough warm shit.

Hence the point of the thread. You try way to hard to call me out. Out of the million perfectly logical spots one could call me out, you sure do pick some of the worsts.

In some places like nyc, even in the winter the city holds in a fuck ton of heat. Depending on the wind it's generally a ton milder than it is outside of the city. That's the kind of thing I was trying to figure out. Some times temp alone doesn't tell you everything you need to know.


Also the movie suggestion was something I would have thought of so this thread was a success.

^Is that true at all. I know the fog in the summer keeps the place pretty cold all summer. Closest to winter I've been is late march early april though.

Traveling can get expensive, all the little tricks help. Being an admitted vagabond/vagrant I know what its like to travel without a car or a lot of shit.

And I am sure you're more than aware of what you can buy/do with the money bringing an extra bag would cost. My above mentioned trip I didn't even bring a backpack b/c I didn't know if they'd let me bring it into the game. I just had a rain coat with big pockets (luckily large enough so I could put my jersey in one and not get killed be rioters.) So bring a jacket with big pockets and put your underwear and shit in those.



I've never travelled abroad but from friends who have it sound really easy to meet other travellers. In the USA you're all alone there is noone else who is doing the same shit as you.

Just if you drink make sure you can stop, I have had to spend nights in drunk tanks all over the US when I've gotten too hammered all over the country (or when someone has slipped LSD in my drink) and it fucking sucks there is always some fines/court date or shit that shows up on your cori.

I'm taking a break from everything and rocking the sober life for a while, been almost a year and a half. So def not going to get fucked up. Kind of wish I was drinking a little though, because that would be a good way to kill a little bit of time. Although my problem would be less getting into trouble with the law and more if they would realize that I was shitfaced and not let me on the plane for being too drunk or something. That's wild traveling with nothing but a coat though.

I'm going to try to fit my drum in my backpack. Maybe find some people to jam with.

From what it looks like the weather seems to be kind of the same all year round so I guess I don't have to worry that much. I think I might rock my totally stylish fleece pants from snowboarding and my snowboard jacket. Figure that will keep me from dying out there.

I've been to festivals where it was colder at night but something about having friendly people makes things warmer, also some of the ones in the past, moonshine was involved.
