Book Recommendations

I'm supposed to read a non-fiction book so I had Miracle In The Andes picked out but after Sandy and over a week of no school and power I ended up just reading it before it was assigned so I have to pick out a new one.  What non-fiction books could you guys not put down?  I was thinking of reading Friday Night Lights but I want some more ideas.  Thanks +k

Monster by Kody Scott is all about gang life in Los Angeles. I read it a few summers ago and as I recall it was pretty good. It got kind of political/racial but that happens and it was still a compelling read.

the story of christopher mccandless/alex supertramp, documented by Jon Krakauer !

i've always been a huge fan of the movie and am now reading the book, it's amazing !

This is exactly what is wrong with society. No respect for others. Nothing in this book is real. PLEASE DO NOT BELIEVE MR. KRAKAUER!!! HIS BOOK IS FULL OF LIES!!!

Marching powder - about a kid who is a smuggler and gets caught and put into a jail in bolivia which has its own economy inside. Picked the book up, didnt put it down till i finished.

I'm quite partial to Walden by Henry David Thereau. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea is also a good read.

funny you should recommend this...

I'd never even heard of it until recently, picked it off amazon, and can't stop reading it now. I could be sitting in a room that's 120 degrees, with 100% humidity...and parts of that book would still make me feel freezing cold.

You can't go wrong with Into the Wild. But I would highly recommend 1491 to you. It's a book about Native American civilization before Columbus. A very interesting book. I had no idea Native Americans were so advanced.

Just re-read this. It's so good. Now I'm on to the Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie. It's too soon to judge, but I'm pretty excited about it. I also just made a pretty weak attempt at Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe. I liked it a lot, I thought it was descriptive and funny but it was a bit drawn out for me. I found myself getting incredibly distracted every time I picked it up. With that being said, I would recommend it based on the few chapters I did read.
