Touring/AT NSers...

I've been noticing lately that there are a few people on here who are into touring and earning their turns.  Where are you from, where are you touring and whatchagot for touring setups? 

I'm from mass but tour all over the EC and also when I go west for vaca (usually UT/BCC/LCC).  Mostly in VT along the green spine though while I'm home.  Right now I'm on Whitedot Redeemers quiverkilled for Plum Guides, but my 12/13 ON3P Billy Goat Tours should be on my doorstep by tomorrow- and will be my go-to touring skis for the majority of the season.  My boots are Dalbello Virus Tours with cochise top straps grafted on as well because I hated the stock top bail. 

So what's up with you, oh rando beasts of NS?

^^ yea they are nice. careful if you go early and the day and hangout for a while as in the afternoon the water gets much higher and the return swim is more exciting aha. That road is so beautiful though and mid winter the lines would be amazing!

the wasatch looks amazing. but I have to ask is it really super crowded like i hear it is? would suck to be so competitive and shoulder to shoulder that would certainly change the game

there are a couple million peeps livin in the wasatch front and it's going to be under an hour to most trail heads.
back in the 90's the gear was marginal and bc skiing was mostly turn earning hippies ski bums, now it's bomber and everyone wants to untracked pow
you can reach wolverine cirque from soli, b right on, or alta under an hour bootpackin
The powder turds pound the powder circuit (silver days cardiff mineral) with one of their ships every day they can.
but no it's never shoulder to shoulder in the bc unless you want it to be
sure youre gonna see people in powder park, bear trap, white pine, grizzy gulch every day and as the avvy danger rises
yeah those low angled north facing go to spots are gonna get hammered.
like wise the side or slack country.
but when stability is decent there is so much terrain that takes 3-6 hours to access
and no where near the people willing to exert that much energy.
so yeah you can be shoulder to shoulder like the couple hundred black dot scrubbing bubbles on the castle traverse

ya can whine about how tracked and crowded the low hangin fruits orchards are
or get high and look around and realize how much terrain there truly is that rarely gits skied





its all perspective the people who tell you its all crowded ive never seen on any of those classic peaks

Why not?! NS is everywhere. But I don't live there anymore :( I just visit lots as my kid brother holds down the fort. Denver is now home. 75% of this was shot on Berthoud Pass.

I am finally thinking of getting into this a bit. I am primarily a sled skier and would like to add touring abilities to the mix. I also like to build booters and drop some decent cliffs. Are kingpins or the salomon bindings going to hold up to the occaissional booter session? I really just want a little added access, I most likely won't be covering a shitload of ground on them like most of you seem to do. I was contemplating getting something like the trekkers? are they a waste of my time?

sounds like a high DIN track binding would be better suited for you. guardians, adrenalines or dukes all work pretty well, just see what you could get a deal on. trekkers work, but you have to keep on top of them else the screws will loosen up. also they like to twist a little while sidehilling. pin bindings are great, but since you'll be sled assisted as well as really hucking yourself, a track binding would be better suited for those purposes, they also do better driving and edging super fat skis.

Just replaced my Guardians with Kingpins.

Holy shit. Touring is soooooo much better when you're bindings weight a full 1.5 pounds less, AND you have 3 touring modes that both flick into and stay in place way better.

Agreed. It makes a world of difference. If anyone is getting serious about touring (and going far), make the switch.

Am wondering if my boot (325mm) will fit in the small duke ( which limit is 325mm) will it be bad to have the binding at its max ? also anyone selling Dukes brake size would be ideal to be 130mm but ill buy brakes if yours are to small
