I've been noticing lately that there are a few people on here who are into touring and earning their turns. Where are you from, where are you touring and whatchagot for touring setups?
I'm from mass but tour all over the EC and also when I go west for vaca (usually UT/BCC/LCC). Mostly in VT along the green spine though while I'm home. Right now I'm on Whitedot Redeemers quiverkilled for Plum Guides, but my 12/13 ON3P Billy Goat Tours should be on my doorstep by tomorrow- and will be my go-to touring skis for the majority of the season. My boots are Dalbello Virus Tours with cochise top straps grafted on as well because I hated the stock top bail.
this thread should get moved to the AT/BC forum and be renamed "touring stoke thread" its never going to die and it would bring people to the new forum.
Loco-Deer-SlayerIn my old age of 24, technology has gotten the better of me. Embed anyone? I tired the embed code from vimeo but the above was the result.

Anyone have experience with the Surface Ruess? They look pretty interesting and I have been toying with the idea of a mild touring setup for quick inbound hikes at Bridger next year

Reports of a fatal avalanche just outside the ropes at Snowbasin (UT). UAC saying the victim was not wearing a beacon and was found by a dog, 3' under.
STOP BEING STUPID PEOPLE
I see this all day long at Brighton, and it's the one thing that REALLY pisses me off quick. Just because an area easy to get to by ducking a rope off the top of a lift DOES NOT mean it's safe. I don't give a shit how many of your "homies" say it's cool to go back there.
Just yesterday, in an area just outside of Brighton, there was a slide at 12:15 in the afternoon, in an area that literally had DOZENS of tracks on it. All it took was a cornice fall that triggered a slide that was 150' wide, with a debris pile nearly 2' deep with lawn chair sized snow boulders in it. More than capable of killing someone.

These kinds of deaths are 100% preventable.
bullshit deaths in the bc are not 100% avoidable nor will they ever be
you should spend more energy at the gate informing your clueless clientele
than on the interwebz
a little irl tough love can go a long way.
ya know it doesn't happen that way next door at soli.
it's a brighton thing.
rolled up pio and out dog lake chutes 2pm yesterday quite possibly the
run of the winter on the best
life style validation day
but at all times toph and i both realize despite close to 2 decades of experience training and a good dose of self rescue/reliance
death or the chance of serious injury is an essential element to the earn your turn game
Loco-Deer-SlayerWhat do you guys do to keep your boots from freezing in overnight camping? Sleep with them or just let it happen? Right now I sleep with (in my bag) my water, and all my layers for the next day.
Mornings with camping are always way too cold.
Little trick i saw my friend do on a recent trip. Conditions were sort of cold but quite dry, just left the boots outside for the night and then in the am when we boiled up some water just put his hot waterbottles inside the boots to warm them up for like 30mins while getting ready and blammo. Sometimes I sleep wtih my liners in the bag but fuck i get tired of stuffing so much shit in there.
SFBv420.0bro do you even tour?
that's grannies they skinned up and what's it matter to you? thc is the huge chute off patsey
above and skiers left of the crown
your'e a voli aint cha?
My bad. I was only looking at the small picture. Still, putting a skin track up a skiable chute so others can't ski it is a dick move, especially when that area is easily lapable without.

a yurt, lodge, hut, or chalet trips booked w/ skiing as a focus, but there much more
no sense in worrying about conditions yet no need to rough it.
we like to roll unguided and uncatered
there are meals to cook
saunas to be stokeified
tunes to jam
powdery substances banned by certain athletic orgs that may or may not enhance performances ingested
selfies don't take themselves
there are stability assessment and terrain choices to be made
threw down the lectric coolaid acid test
sunsets to be savored and cocktail ice to be harvested
gear to fix
just desserts to be rolled stuffed and baked and whip creamed 2 b consumed
there were fruits of others vocational labors to be read
fuck yeah dr
shitter wall shenanigans
and some skill sharpening of serious consequences
sage don't do dish pit duties in the backseat dawg
What do you guys do to pass the time for injuries? I'm the kind of person who works out 2-3 times a day (skiing/weights/biking/swimming) and just recently got injured. I've never hurt myself this bad and I'm going effin CRAZY.
It's been about 5 days since my injury and I can't fucking walk. I haven't owned a gaming console since N64 and I just picked up a Xbox 360 with some games to try and pass the time.
Hey guys this is my third season going into the backcountry. I've started to enjoy it more and more and going to the resorts less and less. I'm at the point I only ski the resort if I'm not comfortable with the avy danger in the backcountry.
Anyway I want to switch over to a lighter setup and tech bindings. I tried on a bunch of dedicated AT boots today and the ones that fit my foot the best are:
1) Scarpa Maestrale RS
2) Salomon Mountain Lab
I'm 6'0" and 185 lbs so I'm thinking a 120 flex would be needed. I'm keeping my Atmoic Trackers for BC booters and mini golf days so these boots will only be for peak bagging and pow skiing.
Any pros and cons versus each of these boots? Durability? I spend a good amount of time scrambling on rocks and really want to be able to replace the soles of the boot.
the salomon mtn labs don't have replaceable soles but are a superb touring / ski boot. the maestrales are decent but don't compare in downhill performance.
^^ ^ Near Banos Campanario and Laguna de Maule? We Spent a couple days in that area when we were in Chile, If that is where I think it is, just recognize the random sandstone formations! Beautiful zone but it was too warm to get on anything too much but skied up to some other really wild rock formations and just hungout for a day.
Did you get to the hotsprings? Bit of an exciting whitewater swim to get there with the bridge being wiped out but still really nice way to wind down!
