*cgski*Anyone familiar touring with 4FRNT Hoji? I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on buying them in 187' (im about 6 feet) for next season. Going to MSU in the fall and want something that i can do some day tours on and have some fun. Probably going to put Barons on them since i can get them for super cheap...time for lunges
I'm a little late on this, but I had a few days on the Hoji this year. To start with, I did nearly all my touring on my K2 Fujas' as well as my inbounds skiing and patrolling. So that's what I'm comparing the Hoji to. My initial impression was that it was a very slow turning ski, that even when I was out on the edges, it never felt like I could rail it in the corners. It's definitely a ski that likes to make long slow side to side turns. It did hold a pretty good edge on the groomers, but certainly didn't want to spend their time there. It also didn't like the trees either. Like I said, it just doesn't like to go quick edge to edge.
I did most of my riding at Brighton (Utah), and if you're familiar with the resort, the Milly side is where this ski really shined. I had a ton of fun in the steep lines off the peak, where it was long radius turns in wide open terrain. The ski floated quite well, even without a ton of rocker. I didn't get on it on a true epic pow day, but I feel like it would be ok for it. Personally I'd like a ski fatter and softer, but I'm sure this would handle it. It handled chunder, chop, avi debris, and tracked out terrain pretty well, and didn't feel like it wanted to toss me off it.
If you're looking for a ski that loves wide open, fast speed, long radius type of skiing, but still can get you down a groomer to your favorite pow stash, this would be a good ski. If you're looking for something to ski trees, quick turns, and mostly beat up terrain, I'd probably keep looking.
