Why did we go to the moon? send robots to Mars? or send subs to the bottom of the ocean? Its all part of human nature to progress, the main theory is that if we don't progress we die we as a species love to push the limits in all aspects you don't think the Turducken would have been invented if some chef wasn't trying to push a different type of culinary progression. so yeah we send it cuz were human and that is what we do.

Yeah massive agree. Its in our genetic make up to improve and progress and in this day and age, as it suggests in the article up top, the only way we can really do that anymore is by sending it HUGE and it takes a certain individual with the right mind set/addictive personality/someone who genetically loves the reward drug (dopamine) to do that. Your body releases dopamine primarily as a survival technique. When the out come of a decision (for example buying a coke at a vending machine, and two drop out the bottom) gives a greater reward than expected dopamine is released. This gears the body up to remember why that was good because at the moment in time you feel amazing. For some reason the same thing happens with adrenaline and dopamine when doing something gnarly.

Its natural for people to want to always improve on what others do, its inherent to our race and what makes competition so important. To always strive for the unreachable is built into our very existence because its what separated us from apes and every other species.

In my opinion, progression should be something that comes from having fun. Having fun should be the most important part about skiing.

We no longer need to progress when we have the all-powerful dinner roll.
