Who here plays? I just started in may/june and I cant stop playing and learning new songs. Currently trying to get my barre chords down right now becuaes iv been avoiding them.
Mr.MittenLook into the some of the older Ibanez Artcore guitars. Pretty solid prices for older used ones, almost got rid of my Eastman hollowbody jazz box for the Artcore haha
I fell in love with the Scofield signature a while back, but definitely need something more affordable. I'd like to find a used made in japan ibanez hollow body from like the 90's or early 00's. I've heard those had some decent quality.
Had a pretty shitty night but most roommates are gone for holidays and now been waiting on one to leave to go ski for last 2 hours. Hes finally about to roll and then i can play as loud as I want. Not that loud but its dope whem nobody's around. Might fuck with learning some new shit.
Didnt EVH use a variac transformer to get kind of a spongy sound?
So he would use a variac transformer to step down the voltage from a wall outlet to the the amp. This proportionally reduced all the voltages from the amp power supply but didn't effect the bias voltage. Peavey did a good job replicating this in their 5150 series. EVH also used amps with EL84 tubes which are already low headroom. He was able to really saturate the tone of his amps this way.
Grabbed me an electric today!!! Epiphone les paul. Bank account is a little sad but i can't wait to get everything that I ordered. And get playing it. Can't wait to see it in real life.

I'm friggin stoked.was looking through some of them and this one caught my eye. I wasn't that into some of the burst ones and some of the colors. This one I was like Yoooooooo.
Also mad positive reviews so hoping i love it.
Making the leap into electric. Also grabbed a loop station. Can't wait to figure it out and get ripping. Hopefully I take to it.

FYI, buy some fretboard oil. Les pauls are known for coming with very dry fretboards. You can get a bottle for $8 on amazon and it'll last years

looper pedals are super fun, once you get the hang of it though you will probably want to pair it with an overdrive for soloing over your rhythm loops. It’s a little bit tough with only a looper pedal to have your leads cut through the rhythm since the output is fixed you have to use your guitar volume and tone, which on my strat is kind of limited I tend to roll off volume/tone and start with my neck pick up to get a chord progression started and then it’s more of a lead tone when I switch to bridge and turn the volume all the way up to solo over it. An overdrive pedal would solve this I just haven’t bought one yet b/c I am cheap and lazy.

True, yeah I'm down to buy more stuff but don't know enough about it yet. But stoked on the move to electric.
Idk, always scary spending a bunch of money on a new hobby but I do play a lot and have improved a fuck ton in 9 months.
If you get a pedal let me know what you got and how you like it.

100 percent, I have been playing for about 15 years but only ever casually for fun so I have progressed slowly. I think that has kept me into it though I don’t put a lot of pressure on myself to “practice” and I just kind of try to learn stuff as it comes to me and keep it enjoyable instead of something that feels like work.

I feel that. That's why I don't want to take lessons. Piano lessons killed my love for piano when I was a kid. I wanted to play a bunch until i took lessons and then i hated it.
I don't really feel like I practice too much though. Even when learning something new its still fun and a lot of times i just play shit i already know. I
I also had a lot of free time on my hands after getting laid off with covid. Hopefully i stay hooked for a long time/forever.
Well I’ll hop in, grew up playing since I was around 10. Hoped to make a career out of it and played myself into carpal tunnel in my late teens. That killed my dreams for over half a decade and couldn’t even look at the guitar anymore. After a long period away I’m finally playing again, but jaded over what could have been. Glad I didn’t totally up and quit and sell all my gear or worse yet off myself but it affected my psyche to almost that point. On a more cheery note have fun with it guys and gals, music makes the world go round.

Damn that's shitty but cool you're getting back into it.
theabortionatorHell yeah. Good to know. Was reccomend by a few friends and have seen a ton of good reviews. Can't wait to try it out
I just picked up an Epi Les Paul Special a few months back - I suck at guitar but it’s been great for me. Sounded great when the guy at the shop played it.
He also almost upsold me on a model similar to the one you snagged. It sounded phenomenal

Fuck yeah man! Im so stoked. Also had a good week of playing. Had some breakthroughs and things keep clicking.
Like i said when i got the acoustic i just wanted to learn a few chords and maybe kind of almost be able to play some songs not terribly. Stoked to keep learning. Even if pace slows down it's whatever.
Anyone got any recs for pedals since that was just mentioned with the looper? I know nothing about this shit.

If you're tight on money, I'd recommend just getting a modeling amp. Those have tone studios built in. You plug in you computer to the amp and you have access to dozens of pedals for free as opposed to buying those individual pedals for like $100 each.
Search some youtube vids on the boss katana tone studio to see what I'm talking about. If you try to get a good tone with real life pedals you'd need distortion, delay, reverb, etc which will run you a lot of money.
Guitar center came theough with the quality packing job

People pay money to ruin the look of their guitars, keep that in mind

If it happens with mine I'll keep it but im not buying a 700 dollar guitar that shows up like that. No friggin way. That woukd be bullshit. They're gonna struggle to resell this thing for a decent amount. Can't believe they offered me 49 bucks.

Oh god this is exactly why I have a fear of ordering instruments online. 10/10 times I'm driving out to the city and actually feeling that bastard up and seeing what it looks and sounds like in a real life music store. I'm sure your Gib sounds and feels great but that really sucks man I'm sorry they got you this way.

Yeah. I told dude he was cooked thinking I'd keep it for $49 off. And just for shits and giggles i asked if that would apply after my discount i had on it originally. And that looked like it either wouldn't happen or would be a huge struggle.
I was like word dude. Good luck selling this guitar for even 150 off. You can get a used one in excellent condition for that.
But yeah new ine is coming and i really like the way it sounds. Just had a jam sesh with roommates ladt night. Well one kinda banged on my drum somewhat in rhythm lol but other plays acoustic. Was cool to be able to play over with the electric. Had a nice sound and texture.
I did it. Can't wait to learn some good stuff on it.
New guitar came in finally. Color is pretty differemt but guitar works. I like the first color way more. Should I be pissed or go fuck myself. I get it that its just color but this is a $700 guitar and i dont have a lot of money.

I would keep fighting them about it until they send you a guitar with no problems. Don't feel bad about it, you paid for it and it was their mistake

Thats also another reason I wouldn't buy a guitar online

I can draft an asshole email for you if you want. It would probably include this photo and say something like I paid 700 dollars stop sending me your 350 dollar blems!!!

Dude was such a dick to me about it. Like really. He hits me with the "would you be interesting in keeping it for some money". No probably not. Knowing I'd be lowballed. Later was like out of curiosity where we at. Fucking offers me 49 bucks. Im like sweet dude. Goo luck selling thst. Could buy a fucking used guitar in lerfect condition for much cheaper. Fuck that.
Also i went to the sweetwater store while in fortwayne Indiana because i visit my friend there sometimes on road trips. Place is legit af. Nicest people ive ever met. Place treates employees right and they treat you right. Would highly recommend if you can't buy shit in person.

Fuck guitar center. Never again
If they won't send you a new one in the right color i would leave a really rude one star review and see if they change their mind
Might be about to cop this this weekend. Got a headphone jack so I won't piss off my roommates and I love dicking around with all the preset sounds and combos.
Been playing a bunch today and been feeling god. I mean i play every dsy almost but git into some good riffs, some of the same rkffs, and accidentslly end uo in a funk jam vibe organically.
Just did a lil slide and it sounded funky and just went with it.
Idk guitars are fun. Stoked the better i get the mkre i csn express myself.
Playing guitar is my favorite thing in the world. I was pretty excited to join my first band in a while but then I broke my wrist like a week later. Not being able to play is giving me anxiety. Anyway here's some stuff that's been inspiring me lately
Anybody here do the midwest emo/math rock tapping thing?
Edit: I play piano and sometimes synths but I've been kicking around the idea of buying a cheap tele and learning that style. Except it seems quite difficult.

In my opinion it’s one of the only things on guitar that’s easier than it looks. Some stuff that sound like tapping (midwest emo) is actually just pull offs and hammer ons which is even easier. It would probably be pretty hard to learn right when you’re starting but it’s really fun. You should definitely get a guitar though, it’s almost as good as skiing
Happy to share I will be reunited with my massive Vox ac30 that's been living at my parents house the last four years. Bout to break all the dishes in my house and get to know my neighbors real well
Always pretty shy but I have shitty memory so sometimes I record stuff on my phone in hopes I can find it and draw from it in the future. This was a jam I was playing just before and a key I haven't really jammed in. Liked the vibe and decided to throw the phone on. Felt good and decided to post it to the book because the guitar makes me so fucking happy. Best investment I ever made. Legit buying it made me broke where I was worried about getting food but I had nothing going on and hoped I'd play it. Has meant so much to me on this journey.
Kinda sloppy but I'm new and guitars make me feel things. I'd love to keep getting better but I'm just happy as hell to have this thing in my life. Hoping to keep progressing and maybe one day get decent at it. If not, fuck it, I'll keep playing whatever feels good and some shitty songs forever.
