The accuracy in communication allowed for by complex spoken language iswhat sets humanity apart from other Great Apes and is greatly responsible forthe rapid speed of human development. Although we are not able to understandall of what ancient civilizations have left us, modern historians recognize thesignificance of even the most cryptic messages. The Stonehenge—conjecturesabout its purpose are still speculative—is representative of fascination withall forms of communication, and our desire to understand its purpose is furtherproof that communication is an integral part of society. Naturally, innovatorsof civilization focus heavily on increasing the ease and effectiveness ofhuman-to-human interaction, but I believe that this focus is no longernecessary, and continuing to develop this human ability is short-sighted untilwe address the limiting tendencies of the individual.EndFragment
