I've got a pair of Sennheiser cx685 earbuds that I love, and I got for $45 new. WAY better than the Bose IE2's I used to have, and about the same quality as the pair of Klipsch S4's I had. Klipsch had more bass for an earbud I'd say, but only marginally so. I like the design of the cx685's FAR better than the S4's though, as they actually stay in my ears. Normally this is a huge problem for me, as I sweat a horrendous amount when working out, and my ears are a little misshapen due to some partial muscle paralysis of the face.
For over ear headphones, I have a pair of the Dre Beats studio, buuut I really only ever use those at home when I want to watch a movie on the computer or something. They're good, not great. The only reason I got them was because I got em from a kid on Newschoolers for 50 bucks. Selling em because one ear didn't work, which works for me because I'm deaf in one ear. I would strongly recommend that you save your money and get a better quality headphone for less money. The Allen and Heath headphones the guy above posted look awesome, and I'd probably buy a pair of those IF I was in the market for another pair of over ear headphones. However, since I rarely use them, and only use my in ear headphones 95% of the time, I probably wont.
Don't even waste your time with Skullcandy. I had like 2 sets of their earbuds before I came to my senses and never even considered another pair. The sound quality is shit, the build quality is shit, the bass is incredibly muddy and sounds like shit, everything about them is shit. Some people say they have a lot of bass, which in a way they do, but it's fake bass in my opinion, and is so muddy you can't even tell what the hell you're listening to or recognize the beat of the song.
I'm not an audiophile, don't need the nicest sound available, and I can't determine exact sound characteristics that are good or bad. I just have used a lot of headphones over the past 4 years or so, and know what sounds good and what sounds bad.
