Passat vs Jetta

I recently totaled my car. My Dad is looking at new cars now and said it would be either a Passat or Jetta. I really know nothing about cars so any input would be appreciated.

I would like to know the differences, what would be better for skiing, pros and cons for each

GET A DIESEL soo badass, doesnt matter if its a jetta or passat, it will be sick if its a diesel

false, 1.8t 4motion passats do exist, they are just very rare. vr6 is the way to go anyways.

jettas are really light in the back so they slide some when its slick roads, also they roll back on hills if its a manual. otherwise i love the jetta,i dont know much about passat but i think its a little more high end.

oh i guess the do, just not in the 2002. and i say 1.8 is the way to go, so much tuning potential

Owner of 2002 V6 4motion Passat wagon.

Bought it in may this year as my first car. She's a beaut. Leather interior, enough horsepower and torque to make it seem like I'm going fast.

It holds a lot of shit in the back. The biggest thing is maintenance. With all B5 or B5.5 passats, you need to have it properly maintained, or shit will fuck up. So make sure the control arms are good, and the that the timing belt is good as well.

My mum had a 1999 MK4 vr6, that she loved, but the passat is so much more utilitarian i'm glad that i have it instead
