When I was young, a fond memory about early season was the local ski swap. It was a chance to score sick gear, find long lost ski buddies, meet new people and ogle at what the shops were carrying. This feeling continued into adulthood, but unfortunately a lot of swaps became lame. Given the chance to design a Ski Swap how we would like, The Gentlemens’ Leisure Club of Golden (a non-profit we started) is proud to announce the BEST SKI SWAP EVER on November 10th : The Golden Ski Swap and Snow Show.
There are no racers in Golden. This means most of the gear for sale is free riding gear made for the gnarly hill above town. And it’s going cheap. We recommend pricing to ensure it’s fair for both parties.
Many events that we know and love have come together to heighten the experience of this years swap. Uniquely Golden, the Sled Swap is hosted by Mountain Motorsports. Located in the COTR parking lot from 12-3pm, this is the place to get anything sled related. Want to sell your snowmobile? Park it and your truck in the lot for free and hang out with friends.
Want to see the newest gear from the smallest boutique brands? Buy new gear? Meet an Olympian from Golden? The Commercial Fair will have booths from many brands, organizations and retailers. Boutique brands you have never heard of and retailers from the valley will be showing off the newest gear and offering one time only specials.
A very exciting addition is the avalanche safety series, ‘Staying Alive’, hosted by Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Between 12-5pm there will be hourly seminars discussing new information and techniques related to avalanches. These short, 15 minute seminars will get you up to date for the up coming winter. Catch the main ‘Staying Alive’ Show at 6:00pm and hear from a variety of guests. We are honoured to have CAC lead forecaster, Ilya Storm presenting throughout the all the seminars.
At 7:45pm we open the doors to entertainment. Teton Gravity Research returns once again with an action packed ski and snowboard movie. Be ready to sit on the seat of your pants…which will come in handy for all the prize giveaways. Tickets will be sold all day for $10. Keep the excitement going with the PBR After Party at the Rockwater, where movie ticket holders get in with no cover charge. On top of all the beats that will be thrown down, stick around for even more prizes.
Last but not least, The Whitetooth Affordable Ski Program has partnered with the GLCG to provide ski gear to those in need. Want to donate your gear? Bring it down to the swap during official drop off hours (see back ad) and we will either sell it to raise funds or donate it directly.
