They're great if you want to double eject, turn out of them, and blow your knee every season. Stay off those cheap markers. Even the Squire, Jester, Duke, and all the others are garbage. I know a lot of the members on here love them. But after seeing how many broken pairs came into the shop while I worked there, and how many injuries they caused, I'll never set foot on those deathtraps. Get a pair of look px12's or 14's. If you want a higher performance binding you could pickup some pivot 14's on sale.
Marker may have improved the quality of their bindings since I dealt with them in the shop. But, it wasn't more than a couple years ago that they were complete garbage.
For your weight you will definitely want a higher din binding. I weigh a similar amount to you and have squires and griffons both ive had no problem with pre releasing or rentention problems. Im friends with the local shop guys and theyve never had a returned squire, despite what others may say about markers durability. If price is your problem ask yourself how much do you value your knees an general safety? Is it more than the ~$50 you might save on getting a cheap low end binding? If so fork out the little bit more cash for a netter binding. The free ten is for small boys and petite girls.
squires for a 160lb aggressive skier is a fucking terrible idea.
If you're set on marker you'd be fine with griffons or jesters, if not also consider the Tyrolia peak 12/15 or the look px 12/14. (or any re-branded version of those)
He says tough that he doesn't want to spend too much money, jesters are bloody expensive and i personally ride on griffons, squires i know are not so good so i would recommend the griffons more.
