Hey I am looking into investing into a new camera. I am looking at the Pantax K5, the Canon 60d, and the Nikon D5000. I mostly do urban shots, and will be shooting video 50% and pictures 50%. All these cameras are in my price range so thats all taken care of. I am skeptical in investing towards a pentax, because they are a smaller company and I haven't heard much things about them. Which one do you recommend? Or none of these. My top price range is 1,300 for body only. I want to invest in some nice lens. any recommendations on those? Thank you.
Supposedly great for video but yet to be seen how effective it is on the photo side of things...not nearly as strong as a Canon for photo, would be my assumption. The OP did say 50/50 photo/video...
Yea to the OP I'd say stear clear of the GH2/3 for photo and video. In this case the 60d would probably be your best bet, or depending on the current price you could look at a 7D.
Nikon d7000. It has a newer sensor than the 60d and 7d, better dynamic range, better autofocus than the 60d, and is compatible with nearly all nikon lenses, old as well as new. Most people on this site has a raging boner for canon. And dont think im biased by owning a nikon, i own a canon 60d, which i got because of the low price and that i had a few canon lenses.
The D7000 is fantastic for photo, and has one of the best APS-C sensors on the market. Lens selection is also second to none. The camera is really designed for photo and not video. It is a capable video camera, but the live view controls are awkward.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Pentax K5 has the same excellent Sony sensor as the D7000.
I'd be worried about the Pentax lens selection though... it's weird. The 16-50 f/2.8 is not very good and incredibly overpriced. They rebranded the excellent Tokina 50-135 f/2.8, but not the 11-16 f/2.8. So you can forget about having a Tokina 11-16 on Pentax. Also, if you start collecting Nikon and Canon lenses, you can eventually use them on a full frame camera if you'd ever choose so. Not so with Pentax.
I am now narrowed down my choices to these three for sure: Pentax K5, Nikon d7000, and the canon 60d. It looks like the Pentax kills the others for photography, but I still want to know about experiences with videos. sorry for bothering.
