Backyard Park Features + Maintenance

I tried searching, but didn't find any threads about maintaining park features.

I just moved to a new house that came with a couple features - namely, two boxes and a couple rails. I'm super psyched on setting them up once we get a decent snowpack, but I know absolutely nothing about getting them ready and maintaining them through the winter.

Basically, do I wax them? Sand them down? What about ice? Etc etc etc...

I've attached a picture of the most rusted feature below. Also, if you have some sick pics of a backyard setup, post them up. Could always use inspiration.

I just throw them in the snow, sometimes make cool things with them, but usually just maintain the inrun/landing

Go to your local hardware store, Harbor Freight Tools is best if you have one around you, and pick up the cheapest angle grinder and wire wheel you can. If you don't already have them, grab some safety glasses and ear protection while you're at it. Clean all the rust off, hit it with some paint, and rub a little wax on and you should be set.

Heres my early season setup i usually change it up a 2 or 3 times a season so you don't get bored of it. Click for larger image But for getting the rails ready i usually grind them (sanding works too just takes longer) then apply a fresh cut of rust resistant paint then wax 1nce a week during the season to keep scratches from rusting and to keep the rail nice and slick.

and other then that if it snows dig out your rails and when lips get to icy chop them up a bit then put like an inch of snow on top and smooth it out. and spray your lips with water when you finish makin them so they dont crush when you hit em'
