Dropping out of school

First of all I really Fucking hate school. I really want to get out and see the world and would like to ski as much as possible. The job I would like to see outside of highschool (welding) does not require a highschool diploma only a G.E.D and I have taken practice tests and I do very well. I just don't know how to go about this whole thing help me NS!

Then how is it that I only made $18k last year and skied over 100 days?

Plenty of people without a lot of money find ways to ski.

It's expensive.


Skiing is an expensive hobby. You can do it with not a lot if you're passionate about it but it doesn't make it cheap.


The cost of gear and list tickets. It's not like you buy a skateboard for 100 bucks and go to you local park for a whole year for less than 200 bucks.

I have absolutely no idea how much I made last year, and I got injured so I made like 7 days last season. Usually 100+ though.

If you are going to drop out then a thing to consider is job corp. At job corp you can get your GED and they teach you how to be a certain career field for free. They feed you, house you, pay you for going there, and after you graduate job corp they atleast find a listing of jobs you can join. Atleast that way you will be atleast setting you up for something. Also at the local job corp where I live they do shuttles every weekend up to hood for skiers and boarders. Im not trying to recruit you to go to job corps because it sucks and it is still not as good as that high school diploma. STAY IN SCHOOL AND GET YOUR DIPLOMA!

All I said was it's possible to ski without a lot of money, it's even possible to ski a lot without a lot of money.

Obviously having money makes it easier, as is the case with almost everything, but if you want to ski you can find a way to afford it. Buy last years gear at huge discounts and ski it a few years for example. Wear the same outerwear for a few years. Don't buy Jiberish. Buy a pass and make use of it. Get discounted tickets. It's not as easy but people do it all the time.

but srsly.... stay in school, youll be able to ski for like, 3 weeks before your broke. A job without a degree isn't gonna pay for the skiing.

If you do decide to drop out, don't be a welder. Go to trade school to be an electrician or a plumber. They make a really good living.

Depends on which mountain you go to, some are 40-80 dollars and some 200 bucks, and I'm guessing he already has his gear

Well, you had gear already I presume, but you can only rely on that gear for so long. eventually it will break and you will be forced to buy new stuff. Also, I assume you had money already in savings and you do not have a family depending on you at the moment.I'm not saying it's not possible to ski a lot without much money, but it is by no means inexpensive.

The only thing you said that was true was that I don't have a family depending on me, but I wouldn't want that anyway.

I didn't have gear before I started, I bought it and now have 4 pairs of skis, so it's obviously possible to buy them faster than they wear out.

I didn't have savings.

It really isn't that expensive if you do it on the cheap.

You don't realize how privileged you are to be handed an education. Of course you don't like high school, NO ONE DOES! Suck it up graduate and continue studying something that interests you. Trust me there is something that you will find that interests you enough to keeping learning.

There's a guy from ontario who finished school, did his welding certificate/diploma/whatever, started making rails and selling them and stuff, and managed to start a really successful company doing that. Makes tons of money and has an awesome job.
There's totally a market for this kind of thing, and the trades in general. Trades are absolutely essential to the world we live in, lots of opportunities to do cool things.

You won't have enough to have fun. You definitely won't have enough to ski. Trust me.
I'm a "Head Cook" at a steakhouse in my town. I wouldn't have even got this job without a higschool education. I make ten bucks an hour. It isn't worth it. I love my job and it isn't worth it. This is as good as it gets with out Chef accreditation.
Stay in school. You will thank yourself later.

The thing is to weld you don't need to graduate High School. And you actually get paid a lot. It's not like he wants to drop HS to smoke weed and go be a gangster, he actually knows what he wants and has a plan. Unlike many kids in his grade right now.

Understandable. I have a buddy who makes great money welding. For arguments sake lets say ten years down the line he hates his life and hates his job. Or he gets laid off or fired?
I see where he's coming from. I really do. Highschool was the worst time of my life. By far. I won't get into it but it wasnt a happy time for me. I am so happy I stuck it out though.

If a welding company is going to hire someone they'll get more then one applicant. Who do you think they'll hire if one has a HS diploma and a G.E.D. and the other only has a G.E.D. ? The world is very competitive kid.

Yeah I also get where you're coming from too man, it's good to have graduated High School because of those reasons you mentioned. OP at least finish HS then go to weld it's just another year.

You can be a certified welder without attending classes (so I'm told)
All you have to do is pass the test and "test out" of the classes.

well that depends, if you work on an oil rig in -65F then yes you make like 35 an hour or you can work at a car body shop in upstate ny making 13.

dude as you mature your idea and beliefs will change greatly and once u get older your going to regret ever dropping out because you may have tons of fun but it wont last for a long time. When you realize u dont have much going in your life your going to get overwhelmed by life and just regret dropping out completely
