Ski by yourself?

Does anyone on here ever go skiing by themselves? I've never done it but I probably would if I couldn't find anyone to go with lol

Multiple threads on this already but I can sum up most of the answers you'll get by saying go for it - A lot of times cranking your tunes and having a self-progression day is all you need to do to have a good time on the hill

Quite often yeah. Sometimes you just need a break from reality and skiing is that for me. As long as you have easy access to the hill, nothing wrong with doing a few laps by yourself.

always ski by myself, both earbuds in. Do what you want, when you want.
but thats mainly cause all my friends snowboard, and are really anoying to ski with.

Skiing by yourself is great. Plus I don't have to wait at the bottom of the hill for everyone to catch up ;). In the park I like friends, and skiing with friends is always fun, but being able to do your own thing is pretty wicked

I really enjoy skiing by myself. Crank up the tunes, and just forget about all reality. Couldn't do it every day though, skiing with friends is also great.

As everyone said, it's a nice relaxing way to progress or just relieve stress. Just don't go off trail in case you get hurt.
You meet some crazy people on lifts when riding with others.

i ski by myself quite a bit.
not alot of my friends ski, so its that or nothing.

although normally it doesnt take long to find a total stranger to start following or have them follow you.

I almost always ski by myself. It's great. I think there's something to be said about it. You don't have to wait for friends and I love tree skiing by myself. Something about being out there and getting a good flow and a line going makes my day. But skiing with friends makes great stories and friendships

Its just relaxing, just like doing anything else by yourself. I thought it was weird at first when skiing for me was just a social thing. But if you love it, it can be awesome to relax jam out and not have to wait on anybody. All at your own pace.

Lift convos with randos can be awesome too

The past few years I got in the habit of skiing by myself a lot. Especially on in bounds pow days. When you know the mountain so well and there's only so long before everything gets tracked, I just decided to say fuck it and fully embrace the 'no friends on a powder day' mentality. Sure, if certain people were around who skied with the same speed and mentality as me I'd ski with them, but other than that, not so much.

Also, when I'm skiing at a new ski hill where there's much to be explored, I find that skiing by yourself allows you more freedom to truly explore. No one but yourself to decide where to check out. If you want to go check out a slice of gnar, there's nobody to stop you.

skiing by yourself is pretty relaxing sometimes...i like to do it once and a while. No one to bother you, you don't hae to talk to people and it makes finding new friends easier.

This. If anybody hasn't tried riding with tunes blasting you have to. I spend a few good days a year working on my own stuff at my own pace and learn a lot.

Quite often I go with my family and so I have to as no one else wants to ride hot laps with me but there is always a fellow Newschooler on the hill ready for some good times!

I love skiing by myself. Skiing with buddies is fantastic, but I really like a little early morning soul skiing.

I always used to go alone to help clear my head. Allowed for a lot of very clear thinking time.

Perhaps I actually need to start doing that again...

I tend to ski very fast without stopping so I do enjoy skiing by myself from time to time. It's annoying as hell waiting for an entire group of people to get to the bottom of the hill or stop at every turn. Sometimes I just have to point it and get down the hill and nothing beats making high speed laps with a high speed chairlift.

when i had easy access (not a two hour drive), to the hill i would do it way more frequently.

but now if i'm up riding with friends and what not, i'll purposely loose them for a bit and just lap the park just listening to my favorite tunes and enjoying skiing.

every once and a while i'll go up by myself and ride.

Yeah I can definetely see where you are coming from with that, but on those epic days I find its way more fun to ski with someone and share the experience, way better memories that way.

Also, if no one is there to see it, are your really get rad?

love it, usualy every few times i go skiing im alone for like half a day, and i throw the tunes in and just cruise. and as many said, i clear my head, etc.

I like skiing by myself more because I don't have to wait on my friends, but every other skier at my home mountain ignores the park anyway so I blare my music and have fun on my own!

i do it all the time when im at school. cant always find someone to go with me, and i usually only go for like 3 hours. at home though the drive is a little longer and there are almost always friends who want to go. I prefer riding with homies, but definitely love shkiing alone too

I don't know how all you guys are able to ski with music...I tried it once and everything was funky. I couldn't judge speed very well, my rhythm was off, and my balance sucked. I also felt like a gaper could crash into me and I wouldn't be able to avoid him. It was like skiing in a cloud, mad foggy and shizz.

No friends on pow days...

In all seriousness though, i don't mind skiing alone. You can go at your own pace which for me seems to be a lot faster than everyone else, so there's no waiting around for people to catch up. I'll go out and ski laps by myself...especially early in the morning when people are still sleeping.

Quite often. Whenever I go up too Maine I'm almost always alone because my Dad is busy and my sister doesn't like skiing. When I'm on my own I tend to stay out of the park and just cruise around usually.

I ski alone probably 75% of the time. The rest of the time I'm either skiing with my dad and/or brother, or with my friends who ski/snowboard, though that usually ends up turning into half the day on the slopes and half the day in the bar. All are fun, just different types of skiing.

Alone: cruising, maybe a few park laps, lots of switch groomer bombing, finding random stuff to jump off/jib

With brother/dad: Lots of goofing off, groomer races, one-ski competitions, more park laps while dad films

With friends: Even more goofing off. Normal skiing in the morning usually followed by an afternoon of chugging beer and doing stupid shit/fucking around on the hill.

Depends on where you ski.

When I'm skiing on our small QC hills, most of the time I'm doing it solo.

But I wouldnt go out alone in a place like Revelstoke or any big mountains. I wouldnt mind doing it if I stay close to the lift or where there are many people passing by.

i love skiing alone. but you will progress a lot more if you have friends around to push you and motivate you to try things you normally wouldn't. both are awesome... skiing is pretty much great no matter what.

The only times I've done it are when I was at a new resort where I didn't know anyone. But that basically never happens anymore because I only go to places where I know people because I need couches to crash on. It wasn't terribly fun skiing alone at Whistler and Bachelor where I didn't know where the good shit was.

I ski by myself every time I go on break at work. If I'm on my days off I know too many people to not ski alone and its nice to have someone with you when you ski off trail most of the time.

Soul-shredding is a really good stress reliever. Just go out if shits on your mind and throw down. But nothing compares to skiing with friends. It makes skiing what it is.

Skiing by myself is the best. I'd say i ski 25% by myself. It's usually in the morning when i get there and i just ski by myself until i find kids. Which usually doesn't take too long. and if no one happens to be skiing that day i get to have a nice relaxing day with just me and my thoughts.
