Macbook pro problem "Your computer restarted because of a problem.."

My computer basically restarts and then i get a blue screen saying "Your computer restarted because of a problem, press any key to continue."

has this happened to anyone before?

Some sort of kernal panic/crash as long as your computer is still running its all good.

Yeah most definitely, best part about apple, amazing customer service. Its probably you hard drive tweaking so back your shit up. Could be your MOBO too.

Welcome to the point where mac starts to have software problems.

Can't get super duper rich with cool designs and chinese labour and think that you'll keep it when your software starts to suck.

Most mac people only think windows sucks because XP was old and Vista was a disaster. OSX is a fucking piece of shit as far as I'm concerned. I'm installing windows 8 on my macbook pro.

Apple is falling apart.

Im considering a windows computer for editing and I don't want to be anywhere near 8... windows 7 is the best windows since XP and if the trend is correct, windows 8 will be like vista and its gonna blow.

It runs decently solid, even on non-apple hardware

but now that I use multi-platform programs, I'll probably be updating to Win7 on my next build (unless win8 has some crazy better build and stability and faster 64bit support, which I dont think it does.)

Le sigh, why can't there be cs6 support for linux

mine does this as well... but only when i try and play shred sauce hahaha. temporarily fixed it by just playing it on fire fox. i had an issue before where my mac would just freeze and i couldn't do anything but hard restart it and that was a huge fucking piss off. the people at the apple store just said it was google chrome. and it hasn't done it since but now this is getting to be annoying and shouldn't be happening so I'm going to in again and see what up.

my roommates computer kept doing it, took it into the genius bar...

be had dropped it 4 months prior to the first panic and the hard drive had been spinning ever so slightly off axis after that, had to get a new hard drive and a new logic board.....

hopefully it isnt that

This has been happening allot to me to because of shredsauce after I updated to lion. I have stopped playing on my mac book and deleted the unity web player and haven't had any problems since.

How is OSX bad? I originally chose to go with a Mac platform because of the stability of it (in addition to Final Cut Studio at the time). Is there anything in the actual back-end of the software that makes it inferior, or are you referring to the interface?

Side note, just installed Windows 8 on my other machine and LOVE it so far. A few hiccups with loading times so far, but the user experience within the start menu is a nice addition.

I'm just concerned with the idea/concept that a Windows platform is much less stable than Mac. Is this entirely off-base?

Just an FYI, Unity player is AWFUL when it comes to running efficiently, even on pro machines. My desktop gpu spikes from running at 45ºc to >70ºc every time I open it. If you have a lower end macbook/macbook pro, it's worse with no dedicated graphics card.

yea i pm'd him and told him many are having problems with it. and im running lion with firefox.

and its a 2012 15" mbp and obviously has a dedicate graphics card so that shouldn't really be the cause of it

OSX is actually way less stable than Win7. I converted completely to mac after running a really quality win7 machine for a while. I hate it.

What you're thinking of is the mistake that was Vista, and the fact that WinXP was the last OS that microsoft did that was good until win7 came out. The advertising that apple did around that is why people think OSX is so much better. It was better than vista, newer than XP - but it pales in comparison (if you ask me) to 7 and 8.

It depends on what you do of course, but a lot of the mac software is really lacking IMHO. Their spreadsheet, word processing, email and presentation software is dogshit - and their cloud implementation is a joke at best.

Microsoft is going deep on cloud, and we'll see how it shapes up. So far, it seems pretty slick - I'm actually going to install Win8 on my mac and give it a try.

OSX is insanely buggy... lots of crashes, odd slowdowns and buggy programs. Sure the mac programs work well, but they have such an insanely limited featureset.

I mean there's a ton that is awesome about mac, and they had a lot of the new mobile/tablet revolution down before anyone else. However, as others catch up, their software is starting to lag... again though, depends on what you do.

We upgraded two machines at the office to 8 already, and so far its amazing. Not enough time with it yet to really give a solid review.

Why a windows machine for editing? Did you start to look at how much power you can afford for like 1/5 of the price? ;)

Admittedly I'm a total mac convert... but I just don't get why people are willing to spend SO MUCH MONEY on it. I mean its good... but not that good.

I paid a total of $30 to Apple for my machine that runs ML, and it was just for OSX. Everything else is off the shelf parts.

Well I used to use final cut pro but now that im using adobe, ive decided to switch to windows for editing. im still gonna have a mb air with osx lol

Why switch to Windows though? I switched from Final Cut to Creative Suite and love it. My MBP was recently stolen, so now looking to replace with one of the new 27" iMacs when they're released. Are you guys talking about desktops or laptops?

In terms of value, I am convinced the iMac line (27" mostly maxed out internals) actually provides a relatively competitive value. Given you are doing a lot of video/photo editing, a traditional desktop would require at the very minimum a $1,000 investment for a decent monitor, whereas the iMac incorporates that into the machine/pricetag - thoughts? Also, I'm assuming there are not differences between CS6 on OSX vs. Windows?

Bigtime. Especially if you get a barebones kit gaming rig and just pump it full of the exact kind of power you need. $1k will get you a fuck-ton of horsepower for your desktop, and if you have $1k to spend on a monitor you're going to get nuts.

Plus lets be honest here... $2k is for the base model. Once you customize that shit its going to be unbelievably expensive. Hell, when I went for a top-of-the line MBP - it was fucking $4k after all the upgrades.

Everything from apple is insanely expensive. If you get a PC case and build it yourself (more of a pain for sure, and doesn't look as sweet) you can probably get minimum double the power for half the price.

Before they released the refresh (and prices are said to remain roughly the same), I had a machine spec'd out at exactly $2,600. 27" with everything upgraded except for the HDD. Same price for a 15" MBP (not retina) maxed out. I see their massive margins within the SSD upgrades, but then again I'm not an expert on computer tech by any means, so there are probably more variables that I am unaware of.

As for building a powerful PC, are there any all-in-one kind of options similar to the iMac? A major selling point for me on the iMac is that it is a single unit. I transport my workstation periodically, so I am planning to get a large pelican or similar case to pack the computer into for car transportation. Adding a tower + monitor dynamic to this equation would seem very unreasonable (yes, moving a desktop is less than ideal. Yes I have considered and dismissed the idea of a laptop).

With Windows 8 pushing the whole "Mobile experience on a desktop," I'm sure there will be a few more all in ones rolling out soon, although expect them to be touch screen based.

TBTH it may be slightly more convenient, but it's a terrible idea if you're putting stress on the components. Heat management is poor at best, and the screen will start to show the signs that heat is effecting it if the computer is not vented well enough. Not to mention you have very little control after the factory ships you the model if you every want to upgrade. GPU shits out? Want to swap out the Mobo/CPU? too bad so sad, spend another 2k for a totally new setup.

Sparknotes: You're going to get a massive massive benefit from a tower desktop, as well as flexibility and customizability beyond your wildest dreams.

Yeah, though I'm admittedly a mac convert... I can't back the price with no customizability. I mean if you have mac programs that you absolutely can not live without, then by all means jump on that shit.

However.... you can customize the shit out of a PC. If raw power is the game, then you can swap parts in and out of your PC any day with no worries.

Now... I will go on the other side of the fence a bit though when it comes to all-in-one - if you want a super clean and packaged setup - nobody does it like apple. Those iMacs are fucking slick as all hell get out. The new ones are so sexily thin that it makes me want to fap to a computer monitor minus porn.

There's great rigs for moving a tower + monitor (do some google research on portable gaming computer backpacks / carrying cases) - but nothing is going to beat the slick package of the iMac.

Just depends how much money you have. I mean, a really solid Toyota is a very functional automobile. A mercedes however is fucking sexy as shit.

Hmm. Well it seems I have some contemplating to do. The main reason for Mac was Final Cut, but now I can use CS6 on windows, although that would take another chunk of change out of available funds. Could be worth it. I now will at least look into the PC route to explore all options.
