I just want a president that understands business and understands what business owners want not some guy that wants to expand government even more with a new department, the department of business and assigning a secretary of business. I mean after 4 years this is his plan, what a lame fucking plan.

You have good points at times, but you're making yourself look stupid when you support Romney. You think Obama's plan is going to, in 4 years, fix what Bush spent 8 years fucking up?

Change is not always the solution, you need to wait for long-term results if you want long-term results, not digging a deeper hole every 4 years because one man's administration couldn't fix the problem as fast as you'd like them to.

If Romney makes it into office we are ALL in serious trouble.

i already voted for jill stein, but december markes a combined 20 years of american involved conflict in iraq and afghanistan.  tax cuts across the board that were implemented in a prior administration were extended by congress a couple years ago. debt was inevitable.  the president has less to do with anything than what the media wants you to think, just like how our votes hardly matter either

Obamas government spending is quite ridiculous. There are way to many useless programs that money is being funneled into and nobody is benefiting from. If we thin out and stop all the useless money being thrown around, the defect can be reduced. I'll try to find the video i saw on this, which was coming from a democratic congressman.

Here is the problem I have with the deficit/debt (both different things). The deficit is the yearly amount of money that the government is spending more than it is taking in, which adds on to the debt< which is the total amount of money "loaned" to the United States.

In theory, the solution is easy. Take more in and/or spend less to turn the deficit into a surplus and the debt will go down.

Anyone who is serious about deficits needs to have BOTH revenue increases AND spending reductions on the table. The republicans outright refuse to raise taxes $1 for even up to $10 in spending spending cuts. This is in no way being "serious" about the debt.

There are also International Affairs scholars who think that entirely eliminating the debt would be bad for relations with other countries as us owing them money incentivizes them not to mess with us. Just something to think about.

I'm not your economics teacher and im not going to take the time to write a 3 page paper of why the debt is rising. but if you really think its because of Oboma and the things he tried to pass that made all this debt you'er clearly not worth my time. if john McCain was in office in 08 we would still be in the same place we are today it goes back to bush and the banks and the housing bubble, but again I'm not getting into it.

exactly. before Bush was elected, Brazil had the largest debt in the world, somewhere around 4 billion. under Bush, it took what, maybe a year tops to surpass that? anyways Brazil now has a stronger economy than Britain, and Americans have finally caught on to being in the world's worst financial crisis, while the rest of the world, including China, looks at them and goes, ummm, you owe us bigtime, stop buying iPads and give us our money.

first off i don't think your stupid just misinformed, but i also don't blame you when i was 17 i knew nothing except what friends and ns told me, and i've learned over the years most people on here including me are wrong when it comes to saying facts i hear about the government. and i also do apologize i don't mean to come off as that big of dick but i am getting to the end of my rope with this elections and B&R bashing because most people on my FB and my school are wrong and i have to explain to them why.

Your not seeing the point. I'm not comparing the defense budget to the useless garbage that money is spent on. I'm saying there's a ton of excessive government spending on stuff we don't need. Those are just a fewe examples, and there's a lot more. The government should be using this money in places we actually need it, or repaying some of the trillions of debt. It won't pay for it all, but it's a start.

You probably don't even know what US debt is. Every dollar in existence is US debt (yes even that $20 in your wallet). Every bank reserve denominated in US dollars is US debt. The only difference between those debts and the debt listed on that website is that debt pays interest. It doesn't have to, there's no reason the US government needs to pay interest in order to borrow it's own currency, it's a pure policy decision to keep interest rates above 0. It is literally impossible to default on that debt (unless we just decide we want to, like the GOP congress almost did in 2011). The only constraint we have as a sovereign currency issuer (other than political constraint) is inflation, but in a deflation/disinflationary spiral that we've been experiencing since the housing bubble burst and we lost $6 trillion of wealth practically overnight, leading to the loss of about $1 trillion dollars in demand and 10% official unemployment, that just isn't a concern.

Ron Paul doesn't understand the economy or how to fix it.

Lol@ people talking about the debt in here. In my opinion it really shouldn't be a huge issue when it comes to picking our president. The debt right now is so large that even with an extremely aggressive plan against it, which most of you would oppose, it would take at least 15-20 years to fix.

Yes exactly, we don't NEED anyone to buy our debt. We are a fiat currency, why does the government need to borrow and pay interest on something it can create? Answer: It doesn't.

Um, no. The Democratic senate was not threatening to default on the debt.

Pretending both sides are equally responsible when it's entirely one side is counter productive. The democrats were simply NOT a part of the group threatening to default on our debt, it was 100% the republicans. The democrats have done other things that are stupid, but in this case all of the blame lies squarely on one party.

Largest debtholder in the United States IS the United States, holding ~5x the amount China holds.

As crazy as almost defaulting was, the interesting thing that happened after that was the rates on bonds went down, meaning it was even cheaper for the US to borrow money. The exact opposite of what would happen if markets were worried they would not recoup their money.

I think that most people who buy US bonds realize that they are by definition a safe asset because the US can always (and unless the GOP get's it's way, will always) pay back it's debts.
