hahahahaha suck as bad as them? Look at where Australia stands on Obama for example. They have one of the strongest economies in the world and have a ridiculously high quality of life.

i'm just going to go ahead and point out that taxes in both Canada and the US are, compared to reality, not high. in your head you can imagine them to be high but it's just not true. America has been fighting wars and hasn't even raised taxes, do you know what the top tax rate in america is today? it's 59 percent less than it was in 1944, down from 94 percent during the second World War (which happened to cost nothing compared to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq). the wars are straight up not being paid for. in fact, almost nothing is being paid for, because anytime the taxes are raised (which they should be, in reality), the whole of America throws a goddamn temper-tantrum. so, yknow, Americans can complain all they fucking want but it's their own damn fault they let their president start two wars and they want to live in a first-world country, which, once again, costs a lot of fucking money that everyone in America refuses to pay. the top tax rate in America, as of now, is about 35 percent. it should be more like 95%. it's not high compared to fucking anything based in reality.

and Canada pays average taxes. if you're unhappy with the tax rate in Canada, it's either because you don't think they are being spent well (and yeah, a lot of the time they aren't, but we live comfortably anyways (well, those of us who aren't paying taxes in two countries)), or because you're comparing them to American taxes (which, as i just spent my time pointing out, are insensibly low).

i don't care about your dad, he can do whatever he wants and you can complain all you want about it, but complaining about Canadian or American taxes being high is the most annoying, stupidest fucking thing to complain about, because it's simply not true.

their economy definitely isnt bad, but still not as strong as the U.S. as far as quality of life, im not sure where it "ranks" but after spending a month there i was not impressed at all with peoples attitudes, and i went all over the fucking place. i just never encountered an area or town where people were generally friendly. the US isnt much to brag about either, we have some of the shittiest places to live ive ever seen, i lived in one for years, but at the same time its not hard at all to find some of the best,friendliest, places in the world.
either way, we arent Europe, we arent Australia, the US is (well was) so great because we were not like the rest of the world. the more we try to become like everyone else the worse it gets.

Hey so I didn't know "exactly" where it came from, just I knew it was awarded through my fasfa the same time I found out my loans and I don't have to pay it back, unlike my loans.
I did a little bit of looking around and this what I've found straight from

The Pell Grant program is run by the national Department of Education. As with any governmental agency, money is assigned to the department by legislative budgets.

When you take this all the way down to the bottom line, Pell Grants come from taxes collected from people who work in the United States.

Also, it seems that it come from the budget of the Department of Education and then they administer the funds to universities. Then it gets divided out from there.

So like in my case this year I had subsidized loans, unsubsidized loans, and a pell grant. Where I have to pay the loans back, the unsubsidized loans I have to pay back starting 6 months after I graduate, but the interest started when I accepted the loan (anyone can get one of these, but only to a certain amount), my subsidized loan is the same deal only I don't have to start paying the interest until 6 months after I graduate (This is more need based, and the interest in the mean time is payed for by the department of education), and for the Pell Grant it is an amount of money awarded that you don't have to pay back.

So here is mine, just for this year for example. (Also the total award is dispersed throughout the year.) And remember this is just my financial aid, whatever of my tuition isn't covered by this I have to pay out of pocket.

Thats my point. My concern is, with the weak workforce and job industry, less jobs are available and more people are being laid off due to downsizing.

So lets think about this in theory. You have a family member (husband or wife) who makes $250,000+ (in the bracket Obama wants to increase taxes on), and they realize they cant continue to spend the way they did. This in turn hurts the small businesses they may have been purchasing from. Contrary, assume they continue to spend the way they do, running themselves into debt which they take out of banks. What happens if they eventually cant pay back those loans? That is money lost to the banks who may have to be eventually bailed out.
This is all assuming they keep the job they have. If they lose that job because of downsizing, thats one less family to raise the taxes on. What happens in if this occurs to 10,000 families, heck, even 1,000? Thats money lost out of the US tax pool. So in order to recoup that lost capital, in theory the US govt has three options, cut back Pell Grants, reallocate funds or borrow more money. Regardless, money has to appear from somewhere, and I honestly cant envision that we will acquire it from cutting back Pell Grants or reallocating funds from else where, seeing as we are strapped thin as is.
Assuming we borrow, what happens when we cant pay back that loan? Our credit rating which is now at AA+ could become AA or AA-, resulting in countries being less likely to lend us money.

Anyways, feel free to critique my point. If I am missing something, please let me know.

I'm not necessarily saying they should or should not, however if I felt compelled to justify it I would point to the preamble of the constitution. "In order to form a more perfect union... promote the general welfare.." As well as the ask not what your country can do for you.. business.
In trying economic times like right now I don't believe it's entirely un-reasonable to ask the wealthy to pay a bit more to generate large and useful tax revenues.

I think the "self-made, me against the world" attitude that many wealthy people have is as detrimental to this country as anything Obama or Bush has done. Arm chair politics. It's not productive to sit back and say "so and so is destroying this country" and yet be un-willing to do anything to help because you already got yours.

most very wealthy people dont have the me against the world mindset. most that did work for their own money do however believe that they are self-made not that their money was made because the government helped them.


If rich people stop donating a lot of money to shit its going to hurt a lot of people. Hopefully they dont stop donating but my guess is that a lot of them will although we do know Obama is a little bitch and will still allow loopholes to be used. He isnt going to take that away, it will hurt his pocket if he does. Rich people donate a shit ton of money to get tax breaks and still pay taxes on top of that. If you want to tax the rich and decide where to put the money thats fine but dont expect big checks going to hospitals and schools..etc from now on if they arent going to get some help in return. Its American and its money, its always going to come down to the "you scratch my back I will scratch your back thing." That goes for both parties.
