It's presumptuous comments like this from both sides that piss me off the most. You don't know everyone's particular circumstances.

Some parents like mine are trying to support a family of 5 children. The way the tax brackets are structured barely accounts for this. My parents needs to be able to keep more of their income, but the progressive tax code says "fuck you, you're paying a higher rate than all other Americans because you made more". It's no wonder people are so greedy when they're constantly being fucked in the ass by the government. A flat income tax needs to be enacted.

My dad works his ass off and has to pay incredibly high taxes to both the Canadian and American government. President Obama still forces my dad to pay the really high taxes even though he has never lived in the country ever. And my dad can't renege on his citizenship because the new laws passed in 2008 that make it next to impossible for him to do. So there goes my college cash...

1) There's a tax credit for children

2) If you're parents are trying to support 5 kids on $250+k/year, I'm not that sympathetic. Again, 97% of the country makes less, and plenty of those people have 5 kids.

3) The current tax system is actually practically flat when you take into account all taxes paid. A flat income tax would just make the system highly regressive.

1. Yes, they do. But, they are negligible and do not make up for the ridiculously progressive tax structure.

2. I'm not asking for your sympathy. It is irrelevant that other people make less. There are different circumstances, different costs of living in each area of the country, different property taxes, different state tax rates, among other expenses in each situation. It is wrong for the government to pick favorites and say that one person should be able to surrender a larger portion of their income than someone else. Did those 97% of the people take the financial risks of starting a small business from nothing? Do those 97% of the people have to surrender over half of what they rightfully earn to the state and federal gorvernments?

I am not quite sure what type of household you were raised in, but my family believes in paying your dues, no matter how unfair or unjust they may seem. No, my father is not going to evade paying his fucking taxes. He is an American citizen and is not going to bail out on his country like that. Realistically, for my father, it IS hard to drop your citizenship. He would have to take at least 10 days off of work to somehow get to New Jersey (his home state) and meet and do paperwork and get it so he can lose his citizenship. That isn't going to fly with his job, and paying for 10 round trips to New Jersey from Ontario is kind of fucking pricey. Secondly, the majority of my family is American and very patriotic. My Grandmother, Aunt, and Uncle etc. would freak out if he dropped his citizenship. Not to mention the fact he would like to end up retiring one day in either Florida/California and owns investment properties in the US.

My dad is an American citizen, so the government can do whatever they want with him. He has to pay taxes just like everyone and can get in huge shit for not doing it. Paying taxes really hasn't been an issue for my family because in the past, previous administrations have not made their out of country citizens pay the same rates as someone who lives in the country.

Getting banned from entering the United States is a fucking bad thing. I guess you are too stupid to realize how detrimental this would be.

Ac31stuff, please elaborate on the tax credit for children, I think you'd be surprised at how little you know about how having numerous family members actually entails. Once again, I thought tax laws entailed this but the more income you earn the more you're taxed (this may be new to you). You receive less per child in terms of taxes and I'm no genius but its pretty obvious that if you earn a lot, you get taxed a lot. If you're supporting 5 children and are getting taxed a lot, you're pretty much making shit. Is there any desire to work hard? No, because the less you care, the better off you get, within a pay scale. There is no desire to continue building on whats been done, its just a slow slope towards below mediocrity. Why work hard when someone else will do it for you?

Go to hell. Its going to be 18,000$ minimum to send me to a decent school for my first year and last time I checked, 18grand wasn't exactly pocket change. It fucking BLOWS when you're family works really fucking hard to set aside cash for something like university, a new car, etc. and then has to have it taken away like that. I already work 20+ hours a week to set aside money so I can do the stuff I want now (because unlike what you stupidly assume, I don't get everything handed to me on a silver platter) and the stuff I will be doing next year when I go to college. I don't want to go to a shitty school and will have to make a lot of sacrifices to go where I want. IM FUCKING SORRY that my family and I are upset that money that we had always intended on using for my college education will now be drained because of the taxes that the Obama administration applies to my family. If we were just all Americans, living in the US it would be different. My dad would GLADLY hand over the money. But because our situation is different, and my dad has to pay for all of our Canadian taxes (which are fucking REALLY high already) it fucking SUCKS that we have to pay the taxes we do to the States. It absolutely fucking sucks. I DONT want to have to go into debt to pay for school. I really don't and neither did my family, thats why we all worked so hard to try and ensure that I didn't. It really stings.
