The "Awkward" Public Transit thread

So, I'm guessing I'm not the only person who's had an awkward experience riding the bus...I'll kick off the discussion with what happened to me yesterday...

I rushed to the back seats of the bus without looking at the people around me because I was the last one on and I just wanted to sit down to avoid the disapproving glares of my fellow bus riders. Immediately upon taking my seat, I saw something wasn't right. Directly in front of me, sitting perpendicular to my line of sight, was a very...interesting looking individual. Being the day before Halloween, I legitimately couldn't tell if they were dressed up for the Hallowed eve or if this was a daily thing. So, I though it would be interesting to see what some of my friends thought. I planned on surreptitiously taking a photo on my phone while pretending I was texting. The bus was really full, so I didn't think my social faux pas would be spotted...needless to say, I was horribly wrong.

Upon taking the leap and clicking the shutter button, to my horror the camera's flash lit up the entire back of the bus, causing everyone to look my way, and the subject of the photo to become aware of my mission. Naturally, I buried my embarrassed face into a game of MadSkills motocross, pretending that it never happened. The rest of the bus ride was possibly the most awkward thing I have ever experienced. Luckily, the individual in question got off on the stop before me (so they don't know where I live, thank god), at which point I noticed that he/she was carrying a small black duffel bag that looked about the right size for a collection of knives or something. At this point, I thought it safe to check to see what the photo looked like, only to find that the subject was staring directly at me, see below for proof. I burst out laughing.

my brother was in montreal a couple weeks ago and saw this guy on the subwat at 3am. he came on saying "lets dance for jesus!"

yeah, that guy is around on the public transit system occasionally. I have never seen him personally though. Something funny with your story though. The metro (as we call here) does not run at 3 am.

I have had some interesting encounters on public transit. None that were too awkward for me though, but just weird people. I've had some weird ones in toronto as well.

i got a good one...... so i live in a town right outside of boston and take the train home from school on occasion anyhow i was a freshman when this happened 3 years ago. well i got on the train in a more "rough" section of the hood. these skiny black guy and these 2 very provokinginly dressed black girls got on the train all up in arms about somting i dont know. Anyways i was witht hese two kid from my town who never shut up and always find the need to be the loud ones everywhere thats why im not frinds with them. we were all sitting on the train and the black guy and the 2 girls in very short skirts and high heels saunter over to us. the black guy has a big puffy coat on, black golves u buy at like cvs wiht the fingers cut off and a beanie that was balling tall that i did admire a lot. we were looking around trying not to be noticed and the guy yells to us 5 $ anyway u want it, 5 dollar...... he said it very quick and the rest of the train car just burried their heads in their books, the guy came up to us and started to look us down and then the girl sat on my friends lap. so disgusting its not even funny. the guy was saying anyway we want it 5 dollars. so basiclally they were offering us prostitution on the train. the grls were yelling at us and laughing and the guy was as well. they were dead serious which is the funny par. the guy pulled out a wod of hundies and twenties and then started to put them in our faces he then yells actually 2.500000 really loud, he said ur mom, ur dad, ur sister ur brother , ur dog ur cat anywhere any way in the closet i dont care 2.50$. my firnd the loudmouth is laughing really hard and decided it would be smart to give this guy a handshake saying thanks but no thanks and stuck his hand out, the guy dapped him up and they left still yelling and screaming.

the most fucked up thing i have ever witnessed on the train so far. absolutley disgusting./claim

Not as much awkward as it was hilarious.

On the bus at 2am from Bourbon street in New Orleans some drunk hobo got on the bus and started going on about how he never been to jail but his homeboy got sent upstate for "sniffing little girls bicycle seats". He then opened the side door at one of the stops and pissed out of it saying "New 'awlins is da best toilet in America!".

the other day i got the cops called on my for pretending to be tripping in the light rail. embarrassing yet fucking hilarious when they found out i was clean.

Okay, so I have to take a public bus for an hour before and after school everyday. I was staying late in the town that my school is in so I took the later scheduled bus back which practically no one takes. My friends and I always sit in the back (cuz we're cool) and so I just went back there by habit and nobody else was there. I chose a random seat (it's one of those airplane-like busses) and was like "sweet I get the whole back to myself!" The next stop, a fatass chick (probably pushin 300) comes lumbering down the aisle and out of every single open seat in the back, she choses the one next to me. So here I am squished into the window by some fat girl for an hour in a bus with 30 open seats. She smelt like fish and beer and we never said a word.

Awkward....

Since I live in a northern MN city of 80,000 our public transit is pretty boring. Nothing funny/awkward to see here. Just a bunch of poor people and college students.

The Summit Stage was always a fun time though, except standing on the Swan Mountain Flyer while holding all your gear. The last bus up Boreas Pass every night was especially fun. Someone on here will be able to relate to this.

probably one of the more awkward bus stories ive had was i got on the bus with a friend and it was pretty full so we were stuck sitting at the front. at the next stop a huge lady gets on the bus, probably about 300lbs sits "beside" me when really she was burying the entire right side of my 115lb body, it was even more awkward because every time i got a text and my phone vibrated which she was sitting on, she would look at my with a weird sort of look. She was writing every stop we passed down on a piece of paper and was just really annoying and sort of smelt funny. This was incredibly uncomfortable and awkward. when she got off the bus my leg was asleep and i could finally breath freely again.

holy shit that pic is creepy. i thought the persons eyeballs where their eyelids and the eyes were shut or they were looking down at their screen. when i read and realized they were looking at you it freaked me out

Also have another good one from a more recent ride. I was taking the red line home late one afternoon after school when my car was in the shop. I was only on the train for 2 stops een this happened. There was this kinda special needed guy younger tho he was reading a book and they called the next stop was this place. He jumped up an ripped the front page of his book off then just legit hucked a lougie right on the ground of the public train. There was a decently looking girl right next to me and we just both started to look and were just grossed out but laughing. The scary part of it was that the book front cover that was ripped off was the mein kanf I don't know the exact spelling but it's the one hitler wrote. Gross story but the girl was a solid 7/10

this morning an asian woman was letting her 4 year old kid stand arround and move on the metro ( subway train I guess) the kid was standing up on a seat for a while and the dumb bitch didnt even bother telling him to sit down or even watch out so he wouldnt fall. The metro came to a stop and the kid lost his balance and just barely stayed up. I leaned forward past a few people and shot her an evil stare for about 20 seconds.

I've seen some pretty weird stuff on trains and buses in Chicago. One very memorable one was this guy who was about 17 or 18 sitting across from me. He was rocking back and forth while chewing a coke can, and periodically staring at different people on the train including me. He was going from when I got on to when I got off so about 15 minutes. The train was pretty empty so that made it even more weird. Another time a poor/homeless(?) man announced to the whole train car that he didn't have money to eat, and if anyone on the train could give him $1 for a burger at McDonald's. Eventually, I along with another passenger gave him a dollar. It got even more weird because he then proceeded to thank us loudly for the rest of the ride. One of the most awkward moments of my life, I was so glad to get off the train. I'll post more if I think of any.

I had taken 5 gravity bong hits and boarded the public transit and scanned my student ID facing the wrong way. Then I asked the driver how to do it and he willingly did it for me. Then my TA happend to be on the bus and my friends and I knowingly smelled like bud, I then talked to my teacher about some stuff and he knew what was up but was cool with it.

There are these two gypsies who ride my express bus from bothell to seattle. They sit in the back and drink four locos and play guitar. One of them looks like johnny depp. They're decent instrumentalists, and surprisingly good singers. I think they hang out at a fruit stand by my old highschool, where there bask in mangos, gypsy punk music, and four loco.

Great story about New Orleans up there. I spent a lot of time there and have a lot of great stories.

However, Peacock, do you play the old mad skills motocross when you use arrows or do you move the phone up and down?

I hate how its a 20min / 15mi drive to work, which will cost me $100 roughly each month in gas.
But if I wanted to take the bus, it would take 55min to get to work. 1.5 hours to get back. I guess time is money :/

on a story related note, I had a drunk hippie chick try and make a move on me. dang dreads were like sandpaper on my face. no thx.

This this this! What the fuck. My drive is 15 minutes. But I have a bus stop literally right by my house and one right in front of my work, but the route is like 5 transfers and takes well over 1.5 hours-- fuck that.

Haha I always ride the train home from school, and there's some weird people. Especially in philly and that area. Sometimes these hood as hell dudes get on and I'm just like this dude is totally gonna sit next to me and try to sell me guns or crack. Or the kid who has his headphones on max volume, to the point where everybody can clearly hear it, and has to rap along with g unit or whoever.

Last time I rode home this asian guy got on, and he was in the one seat that is facing all the other seats, and every time I looked up he was staring at me. He just like surveyed the whole car for the entire ride. So weird. And there was this one girl who had a set to herself, and every time some old dude got on she was definitely thinking this guy better not sit next to me.

And in trenton there's always homeless dudes hanging out in the station. I was sitting on a bench, and this guy with a huge coat sits on the other end. His coat has a ton of pockets and they're all so full, and clearly have been for some time, that the coat looks stretched. Possibly hyphy... But he pulls out like a book of stamps or something and starts looking through it, mumbling to himself. And just in general was acting sketchy. Then there was this black dude who looked like a homeless guy, in terms of dress. But he was sitting against the wall with a macbook plugged in. He had a really long orange beard too. I'm just sitting there thinking well if a gang war starts, at least I have my skateboard as a weapon.

And there was one kid trying to be swag (might be the right term?) but he had uggs, like girls style high boot uggs. And a vest and really tight pants.
