The "Awkward" Public Transit thread

So, I'm guessing I'm not the only person who's had an awkward experience riding the bus...I'll kick off the discussion with what happened to me yesterday...

I rushed to the back seats of the bus without looking at the people around me because I was the last one on and I just wanted to sit down to avoid the disapproving glares of my fellow bus riders. Immediately upon taking my seat, I saw something wasn't right. Directly in front of me, sitting perpendicular to my line of sight, was a very...interesting looking individual. Being the day before Halloween, I legitimately couldn't tell if they were dressed up for the Hallowed eve or if this was a daily thing. So, I though it would be interesting to see what some of my friends thought. I planned on surreptitiously taking a photo on my phone while pretending I was texting. The bus was really full, so I didn't think my social faux pas would be spotted...needless to say, I was horribly wrong.

Upon taking the leap and clicking the shutter button, to my horror the camera's flash lit up the entire back of the bus, causing everyone to look my way, and the subject of the photo to become aware of my mission. Naturally, I buried my embarrassed face into a game of MadSkills motocross, pretending that it never happened. The rest of the bus ride was possibly the most awkward thing I have ever experienced. Luckily, the individual in question got off on the stop before me (so they don't know where I live, thank god), at which point I noticed that he/she was carrying a small black duffel bag that looked about the right size for a collection of knives or something. At this point, I thought it safe to check to see what the photo looked like, only to find that the subject was staring directly at me, see below for proof. I burst out laughing.

Personally I always have flash off because you never want to miss the creeper moment. You can always turn the flash back on when you are taking a planned picture.

that is pretty damn solid. Quite the awkward experience indeed. Solid picture though.

I hate this classic situation:

Your standing facing the front of the bus about midway back and you see somebody you recognize but aren't friends with/don't really know gets on the bus. They look in your direction and wave and smile. You then think that they are waving and smiling at you and procede to wave and smile back. When you soon notice that something just isn't quite right you check your shoulder to see somebody behind you waving at the person who just entered the bus. Then it hits you when you realize that wave and smile was not meant for you at all and you just feel like an idiot. Such a classic for me in high school.

I sat down on the train one day and the guy next to me looked at me and started rubbing the most obvious hard on I've ever seen.

I casually got up and walked all the way to the other end to find a new seat.

I'm not a fan of taking the bus, but I don't really have much of a choice since starting university this year.

Definitely some weird ass people, there's a few open seats today and this weird dude comes and sit right near me and I swear he's lurking everything I do on my phone. Not a fan of when there's clearly other open seats and randoms come sit almost right next to you

i ride the bus a lot to and from campus to my house, not too many awkward rides yet. so far all i have done is sat down on a tiny asian lady and fallen pretty much entirely onto a hot girl when the driver slammed the brakes. but it led to a good conversation so it was actually not very awkward after haha

this is funny because I overheard the most awkward conversation yesterday. It was a guy and a girl taking and sounded like they were just getting to know each other, and everything was going pretty smoothly I presume (wasn't really paying attention) until he asked what her dad did.

she said "my dad was an RCMP officer but unfortunately he passed away".

Now that is always going to lead to a bit of awkwardness but this dude just completely shit the bed trying to deal with it. First he repeated the question, as if "my dad passed away" wasn't clear enough. then he was like "i'm sorry" she said thanks and there was a bit of awkward silence where every normal person would be trying to think of a way to change the subject.

Anyways instead of doing that he says "I can't imagine anyone just not existing anymore" and a bunch of similar awkward sentences about death followed by one word responses, and awkward silences. I guess you had to be there to realize how bad this was but the guy got off the bus without ever getting back on track.

I wish there was something I could have said to help a brotha out without making it seem like I was eavesdropping lol

I lived in Snohomish WA and worked in downtown Seattle for a year... on average about a 55 min bus trip. Oh the stories. You can always tell a rooking on the bus because they set their coffee cup on the ground and 10 seconds later it falls over and spills everywhere, Screw top the way to go.  Had a guy rolling joints right next to me, people fighting, someone threw up, singing non stop. And I was on an express bus not even the City metro bus haha. Not to mention having to chase the bus in a suit numerous times... Now I live 6 mins from work, needless to say I dont miss it.

Also there was this one time where this 9/10 chick randomly started taking to this 4/10 dude... They happened to read the same book or something and for the whole trip (about an hour) they were talking and laughing and having a good time. Then her stop came and they said bye and she got off. He didnt get her number or anything, after she got off the bus all these old ladies started asking this guy why he didnt ask her number and all this stuff. These old ladies were hating! It was pretty funny but I kinda felt bad for the guy... But thats what he gets for not getting those digits!

I have three more ones from calgary

I was on the c-train this wasted guy in a trench coat asked if I wanted to buy crack. I said no and then he says how about (insert heroin slang here, i think he said smack?", and opens his jacket that has pre-filled heroin needles, like mafia guys do with guns in the movies.

I'm pretty sure they were his own personal ones because who in their right mind would ever accept some random guys needle? I didn't even know that you could pre make those things I thought you made it right before you took it. either way the guy was clearly just trying to intimidate me.

I also was on the bus when the driver pulled over and yelled out to a guy sitting in the back to get off the bus, because he was hiding an open beer. After a brief argument the four people in the back get up and throw their full beers at him. I would have been soaked in beer if there wasn't a plastic divider between the back door and the seat I was in.

I saw a guy who was overdosing on something try to eat a plate of poutine and then pass out onto the floor. then this other wasted women goes down and looks like she is trying to help him out, but all she does is scoop up his poutine which was half spilled onto the floor, and then sit back down and start eating it. It sucked because the bus driver had to stop and call for help and I had to wait for like 30 minutes for another bus.

the last two were on route #1 if you know calgary transit. I have seen so much funny shit on that bus and that was on the bowness side. I bet the forest lawn side is even better.

I dont really have a awkward public transit story myself eventhough I take the subway and bus multiple times every day. But there was a guy who, during rush hour when the subway is packed, used to masturbate and cum on random women's clothes. When he had finished he got off, and no one noticed they had their coat blasted with cum until he was long gone.
What I know, the cops never managed to find him.

when i was like 17 me and a couple friends of mine headed up to portland for a concert. we met up with one of my local friends and proceeded to drink some drank. it was getting closer to concert time and we realized non of us could drive so we decided to take the MAX (train) this was the first time i have ever been on a train or anything like it so i was nervouse to begin with. Anyways while we were sitting in the back of the buss we decided to drink a little more. then as i was taking a pull the train suddenly jolts to a stop. i panicked i thought someone told on us and we were gonna get in trouble. after about 10 seconds the lights went out and a loud voice came over the intercom saying to stay seated and no one try and exit the train. I was super shitting myself now. so we sit there for a few minutes and see police sirens and what not heading towards the front of the train. as we are sitting there a very large black man and black women start to get a little wound up. Man complaining hes going to be late to his job and that shit isnt about to happen. He starts bitching at everyone and making a huge scene. then out of no where decided hes gonna pry the doors open with his hands and climb out. he succeeds and naturally everyone follows him out. we start heading towards the front of the bus and towards the cop lights. comes to find out the train had hit a car and the car hit a biker or some shit. anyways it was awkward and scary at the same time.

the only time i ever had to ride a bus, besides a school bus, was a 10 hour trip from PA back to NY after i totaled my car in PA. it fucking sucked. i was miserable. the people i was on the bus with were miserable. i just did my best to sleep.


and it honestly wasnt even that bad.

Today the bus driver left the bus (full of people, I mean really packed) running while he went into a grocery store and bought like a chocolate bar or something because he didn't have any bags when he came back. Then he just kept on driving like nothing was wrong. It was one of the strangest things I've ever been a part of, not really sure if its considered awkward but I thought I'd share anyway.

C-train is always good.
I was talking to a drunk guy on the train one night and mid conversation he just pissed himself. It was a full piss too. He soaked his pants and it was on the seats and the floor. It didn't even faze him either, he just kept talking like nothing happened. Stunk the place up so I pretended it was my stop and went in a different car.

oh man that photo is hilarious.

one time i saw a woman/hag type thing that i swear was the fairytale definition of a witch. like i'm pretty sure she probably went home and boiled spider eggs in her cauldron and junk, she also had a glass eye to complete her horrid look. then i saw her again pushing a shopping cart while i was driving around with my friends and i yelled some hurtful things about her being a witch out the window but i'm pretty sure it was ok because i'm pretty sure she's actually a witch so it wasn't like an insult just an observation.

one time i was on the bus and an old man was staring at me so i looked at him and then he said, in like the creepiest way, "i can tell by your eyes that you've killed people." and i just didn't say anything because i was a little taken aback, so i stared him down until i got off the bus and never saw him again. normally strangers tell me my eyes are beautiful so this guy was really weird, like you can't even tell that kind of thing from someone's eyes. also i don't kill people.

Public transportation is disgusting. Glad I only ever take it to go to games or out drinking. Its not even cheap either, some fucker bus driver in Reno didn't let me on with a buck and made me get the next bus with 2 bills.

hhaha god i have some good night rider bus stories from sydney after the trains stop running.

not really public transport but me and my mum were visiting my brother in hospital and as we were leaving we had to validate our parking ticket, so there was a line of like 5 people so she lined up and i sat down on the beach paralel to the line and hop on facebook. after a couple of minutes i look up to see where shes at and right infront of me there was a girl with the nicest ass ive ever seen in tight gym pants. i already had my phone out so i went to take a photo and my fucking flash was on. light up everything and this girl just looks at me and smiles and then my mum turns around and looks and see's what i was doing haha. lols ensued.

On the way up to our hill in the middle of last season, on the bus, my buddy and I were throwing bits and pieces of a sandwich at a small group of people sitting six or seven rows infront of us. It was getting a little out of hand when I lobbed an entire pj&j. It didn't go anywhere near the group of people I intended. It hit some lg square in the back of the head. The group of lg's didn't know what to do, and neither did I so I pretended to fall asleep.

Not awkward, but I was on a bus last week and I'm fairly sure a guy tried to make a controlled buy off me. We got on, stinking of weed I assume, and the second I sit down this hood ass lookin black fool gets up and sits across from me. After a couple minutes he asks if I "knew where to get the bomb." I said no, and as we were leaving the bus he turns around and asks this random, nark lookin white guy if he wanted to "keep trying." I stopped dead in my tracks as I was gettin off and just glared at them for a sec. Fuckin bullshit.
