How to crop & stabalize in cs6?

hey guys,

just wondering how you guys fix shaky footage in post.

Now im familiar with warp stabalize however i'm not quite sure how to tinker with the effect to enhance it?
also i'm interested in cropping some of my video so its a bit more widescreen and will help with the shake elimination compensation?

any got any leads or ideas on how i can do that?

I used to know how in AE cs4 but that shit was super tedious, with tracking points etc.

It's really easy, you can even do it in premiere. It's called warp stabilizer. Go window and chose the tracking/stabilizing tab/window thing. Then there is like track camera, warp stabilize, track motion, and one other one. You chose warp stabilizer and its applied like an effect. (like curves or levels or w/e). Also, there's ton's of tutorials on youtube... just google it and watch one its way easier than reading it in words.

I like the idea of warp stabilizer, but I find it often ends up warping along the z axis,

I can't really visualize what you mean by warping of the z axis. You can tweak the settings a lot and have it zoom in more (Crop the outside) but be more stable. If you zoom in too much (overdo the effect) it gets all messed up and warped. Just mess around with the settings (@ OP). Pretty sure there is one like amount and you can do a percentage, the higher percent the more stable and the more cropped it is.
I'm wondering my self if there is a way to get it to shake up/down/side/side still but more of a smooth motion. I almost want to add an artificial bounce/shake movement after I warp stabilize it. Just not the violent/jittery movement that there is from straight out of the camera.

there'll be tutorials on how to add that "handheld" look if that's what you mean, not shaky but still having movement. Also what I sort of mean is it warps, and zooms at the same time, the cropped % doesn't matter, it's the fact that it zooms that annoys me, looks weird.

if the width of the video is the x axis, and the height is the y, then the depth, or zoom, i guess, would be the z axis. therefore, if you're trying to stabilize footage in which the camera is not only moving/shaking up and down/side to side, but has movement where the lens shakes/turns literally to the right (not just tips to the side), there is parallax error because the position of the lens is different in relation to the environment. therefore, in order to correct this, stabilization programs often zoom/warp parts of the picture inward or outward, which would be warping on the z axis.

Threads. So if I had a 1080 clip could I crop it to 720 and then use the extra space to allow for the "Box" (meaning the 720x1440 or whatever it is x by area) to compensate for the shake?

In the warp stabizer you can use the crop and position method to avoid weird warping

Ah that makes sense. That happens to me a lot.

If cropping from 1080p or 1440p or whatever other resolution down to 720p then you can use the normal stabilizer (non warp) to have this border move and make it stay in place. (use motion tracking and then do the stabilize option) I've found that warp stabliizer works much better, but still neither of them are going to make a horrible shot usable. I think it looks best when you don't eliminate the shake altogether but just take the edge out of it and smooth it out a little, which is pretty easy with warp stabilizer (Even just turning it down to like 10% will smooth it out a bit)

Yes you can. You have to get the clip at the right speed first (slow motion) and then pre render that individual clip (or you may be able to just set it as an individual precomp or composition). Then you do the stabilization with the prerendered/precomposed file.
I don't think it works if they're both added, the warp stabilizer effect and the slow motion effect (time > time remaping or whatever).
