Look Pivot / Rossi FKS Brake Replacement Fiasco

Last year was my first year getting into a non Marker binding and I can't wait to go back. I bought a pair of Look Pivot 14's and I will say they are great. This year I decided to get into a wider ski so I figured just like with my Markers in the past I would just buy some replacement brakes. Wider of course. Should cost about $50 right? Wrong!!! First I tried searching for places online for them. No luck. I know they involve a bit more work than changing the Marker brakes but if you have half a brain it's not too difficult. I had no choice but to bring them into my local shop and inquire about getting them replaced. Seems they have to send them back to the manufacturer to get this done. That's cool with me. Price....$230!!!!! Have they lost their fuckin' minds? Anyone else experience this? And no I can't bend them from a 90mm to 120mm.

You don't want fks for pow skis anyway. They are a pain in the ass to step into on a pow day. There is also a how to vid on changing out the brakes in the sticky.

I can deal with the pow issue as they won't be a dedicated pow ski. I know how to change the brakes out the problem is getting the brakes.

90 to 120 isn't that big of a jump. All of my FKS brakes started out at 75mm now I have them at 90, 102, 112, 122, and 124mm. So not impossible.

Thanks for the bending tips but you're missing the point. What if broke just one arm off one brake?

Just don't heat them and take it slow and steady and you'll be fine. I bent mine from 100 to 120, and actually ended up having to redo it because I bent them straight down instead of back. When I got the swept back bend in there it was actually really legit. So it's not terribly difficult, it just takes patience.

But what I'm wondering about is how wide do you bend the brakes. For example a ski with a waist of 90 mm under the binding. Is 95mm enough?

we sell wider brakes for the fks at my shop...try another shop or call around. Shipping your shit back to look/rossi is just plain ol retarded and ive never heard of anyone saying that.

The brake issue with the FKS/Pivot is annoying but they are great bindings. If you don't get them go with something like STH 14 or 16's. Easy to change brakes and widely available and bombproof unlike markers. Personally I would never have markers with the exception of Dukes or Barons but now that Salomon has a touring binding hopefully we can leave the royal family for good.

Call the Park City Rossignol office at this number:

(435) 252-3300

Explain to them that you need replacement brakes for you bindings, but tell them that they are the XXL series, or whatever brake width you want.  It is important to tell them that you bindings came with wider brakes, because they don't like to give wide brakes to people with older FKS bindings.  If you talk to the right person, and are persistent enough, they should mail you a set for $30-$40.  They may try to have you ship them back to their Ogden, UT facility so they can replace them, but they will eventually give in and mail you a set.  Good luck.

lol I hate when people say this, it's not hard at all as long as you're not full on stupid.

the amount they're charging you sounds way too high, as for the process that's just how it is with those. shops aren't legally allowed to mess with pivots brakes.

FKS = park ski binding
Jesters and mojo 15 = pow ski binding

For me anyways. I've always had extremly minimal binding problems

Hi, ive got a question,

Can i replace the brakes (i will get spares soon) without removing the binding out of the ski?
And if no...Would a carefull dismount, (replace brake) and reglue + mount be oke?

No, you have to take the binding off the ski. As for remounting in the same holes, I think its debatable, some people will, some won't. Should depend on the condition of the holes and I don't think you would put glue in. Ill let someone else answer that.

Snow build up and the heel pivots around. Also the mounting pattern isn't all that great for today's massive 120 waist powder skis.

Everytime someone says not to use Pivots in soft snow I visualize them as being a giant legged vagina with sand spilling out. Talk about whiney little cunts


There are plenty of us who have been bending 80mm look breaks out over skis up to 130 for years. You know they did not come with wider breaks before 2006 or so.

Ever heard of Tyrolia Attack 13/16? Super solid bindings, high quality, and not too expensive either. In fact the entire AAA series from Tyrolia are good bindings as well as the Peak 18's. Phil Casabon, Tanner Hall, Mike Hornbeck, Jesper Tjader, etc all ride Tyrolia's.

To OP Al's Ski Barn has FKS brakes in size 115mm for $100 you should be easily able to bend these to fit your powder skis.
