196 Renegades - where am I mounting these?

Just picked up a pair of 196 Renegades with an MFD plate and 4FRNT deadbolt 18s.

I live in Vail, 6'2" and 190 lbs. Where have you owners of these beautiful beasts mounted yours?

I'm at 92cm from tail which is -6 from centre. That's the updated recommended spot from Hoji (old one was -5). I'm also a big guy and pretty down with the performance where they are now.

PM K_M, or try TGR; renegades are not the typical ski of an NSer. You could also ask 4frnt, they have online help on their website or just shoot them an email.

If you look strictly at dimensions, then yes. If you look at rocker profile or where the taper starts in the tip and tail then not really. IME mount point changes the rens' characteristics more so than with other skis but I haven't skied a pair more forward than -5. Interested to hear if you get an even more surfy feeling. Let us know how they work out.

and why dont you take tabs stalker....Get your calendar so can mark off the days when i ski my obsethed, my belafontes, my bibby specials, my patrons, my new life. And thats just MY skis and at THIS HOUSE. NOT the rest of my familys skis (Shared) at this house, nor my other skis or theirs, at all my other houses... FUCK OFF JELLYBEAN. I WORK MY ASS OFF.

A frind of mine skied them on the line last year, said it felt like a lot of ski in front but skied nice.

You should go with 916s though if you're aiming to get the heaviest touring rig ever.

haha thanks - i actually will probably just use rocks to weigh down the tip rocker when i skin and to add an extra 20 or so pounds.

i'm looking to make these more playful than chargy. thanks everyone for your responses so far, i will keep you all in my prayers

Bro you've never skied the fucking ski. Why don't you tell us more about how you ski THE Beaver Creek and have a huge quiver of mostly overlapping skis, half of which you just got and haven't skied on. I noticed your thread over in TGR and remember you because it was fucking hilarious.
If you have no idea what you're talking about don't give advice.
And to the OP I've skied the Renegade at the factory line (5 cm back from the center) and at +2 from the factory line and prefer the factory line mount, but a lot of mounting point is personal preference. I'd recommend emailing 4FRNT,they're good people and know as lot more about the ski than me or most other people on NS.

4FRNT has also chimed in multiple times on the TGR thread, including why Hoji started mounting them a cm back than originally. I realize its 20-something pages long but most of it is actually relevant information. I read the whole thing when I was deciding to first buy rens, then where to mount them. There's tons of people who have skied them at -5,-6,-7 etc who have all written half decent reviews of what they thought. I saw you posted the same question there and you'll get your answer there without sifting through this shit.

they are my fucking brothers skis asswipe. he had them at -3. he gave them to me since he got new ones. he recommended keeping them where they are for what we see here in eagle county.

Is that not good enough advice shit for brains? you really need to fuck off.

thanks man i appreciate it. i have spoken at length with 4FRNT so i've gotten their view on the matter for sure. i just like hearing what consumers think as well, because i tend to think they will be more critical seeing as they generally paid for the skis.

The renegades are never going to be more playful then chargy, thats just not what their designed for. I've skied at least 18 days on the renegades and I would strongly recommend against moving the mount point forward to try to make them more playful. I tried a pair mounted a -2 for 2 days and IMO moving the mount forward makes the Renegades ski significantly worse (of course it sometimes takes more than 2 days to get a ski dialed in, so take my advice with a grain of salt). I checked out your profile and noticed that you have CRJs. Why not just use the CRJs when you want a playful ski and mount the renegades at -6 and use them as a charger? Also if Hoji recommends a -6 mount point I would listen to him over anyone.

And hahahaha skisafe I'll give you a hint dude the reason people keep on fucking around with you online is because you freak out. Next time some asshole like myself posts shit take 10 deep breaths, realize its just the internet, and don't flip shit because its not worth it.
I honestly feel bad about my post, it was uncalled for but I was in a bad mood and was looking for a reaction like the one you gave me, and also because its pretty clear you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to skis. Telling the OP to mount his renegades forward because they're "nearly symmetrical" is terrible advice. The renegades are nearly symmetrical not because they're a playful ski that are designed to land and ski switch in pow but because they don't have a very big side cut. Rens have a big mountain focus, and should be mounted farther back than a ski with a more freestyle focus like the Bentchetler or even the Bibby Pro.

True. But i wasnt saying " mount them closer to center because there almost symmetrical", although i can see how it sounded like that. I just meant it wouldnt kill the guy, if he was used to or just coming off of a center mounted ski, to mount them at plus 3.

Personally i hate jibbing. I like to rip hard and fast. its literally my personal goal to crank up my headphones, and get back down to the lift line as fast as possible. I thrive under pressure

I wish he mounted @ -6 so i could see what these really have to offer, but they do offer more diversity this way. all in all im going to sell them i think. On paper ya they are different, but i just cant see why i should have both these and the surface new lifes...OVERLAP
