The Argument Thread

Not going to lie I love arguing and am always on the prowl for threads that may be controversial just so I can get a little back and forth going. I decided that perhaps their are other people who can agree that this but on nothing else. So, post a statement, a question, a 'fact' and have people argue with it, or add more points on why they agree. Hopefully things don't get too wild so this gets deleted, but hopefully there is a wide range of things to constantly debate over in here.

And if this doesn't interest you, Monty Python will perhaps plaster your face mouth with a grin or two.

I'm pretty sure your idea of an "argument" is just to contradict the previous statement by saying stupid shit like "the sky is gray when it's cloudy, not blue" and this stupid ass statement above.

Actually I think an argument is something which provides relevant examples and analogies which can present the same basic rule or idea in another way which makes the outcome seem undesirable, morally wrong, or otherwise reject-able therefore causing the original rule or idea to need to be altered so that it will fit in with as many examples of contexts as possible and still provide a morally desirable result. In these examples I believe it is important to provide evidence that is as objective as possible though this is clearly problematic for thought experiments, though with these it is helpful to make things as simple an concise as possible so that they are easily understood, less subjective and more easily manipulated for different contexts.

Also reasons though.

an argument is a discussion or debate centered around opposing views of a set topic, usually resulting in the opposing sides attempting to push their perspectives upon each other.

Yeah I agree, I was just trying to explain how that is done usually - for example someone is like 'I think killing any person is bad' and then come up with an example of Hitler and you have to reevaluate, and compromise to make a more acceptable conclusion of the rule.

What do you think; is it reasonable or harmful to protect your children from stigmas and bullying? Or is it harmful to push gender roles on young people who get their spirits crushed as to what they can or can't be as a young child. The boys will learn to repress any desire they had to be feminine because of the shame they felt, and the same thing with the girls and masculinity.

I took sociology a couple semesters ago and we discussed this topic. My professor felt that as americans children are taught that they are more special, unique and different than anything else in the world. Their small feats are made out to be the most amazing thing that has ever happened. Children grow up thinking that they are the most amazing person ever and no one will ever be as good as they are. They think that they don't have to work for anything because it will all come to them naturally because they're just that awesome.

This is one of the reasons why people from other countries dislike Americans. They think we're self-entitled, greedy motherfuckers. But a lot of us are.

WOW I know this abortion debate is pretty common, but I just read this article and it was AMAZING! I can seriously imagine that if I was pro-life this would change my mind. Talks about why the pro-life movement is doing all the wrong things to prevent a fertilized embryo from being lost. Paid for birth control lowering abortion rates = vote Obama if you are pro-life. Equal number of abortions whether it is legal or not according to WHO. Check it out!!
