the thing is that it shouldnt be a campaign issue of any impact. anyone remember the final question in the vice presidential debate? on how their catholic backgrounds impact their view on abortion and how that could affect supreme court appointment.

that is the only way any politician has an impact on this issue.  roe v wade has already been decided. only a lawsuit through all of the courts that could overturn the right to privacy can change anything. probably not going to happen.

even less feasible would be a constitutional amendment denouncing the implicit right to privacy thereby nullifying roe v wade. no way in hell is that happening.

every time anti abortion laws get passed in states like montana, they get struck down as unconsitutional later in the courts and it just turns into a waste of time and money.

presidents, governors, the people of congress have almost nothing to do with decisions on abortion

abortions are legal in every state and have been for almost 40 years. what are you upset about?

thats like an old fart being angry because pot is illegal, which they are happy about, but they have an irrational fear that one day pot my be legal.

Shockingly I can't throw myself 100% on either side of this issue. When people bicker about it it's pretty dumb. I understand it's a heated issue, but I don't think you'll ever sway somebody.

I really do understand where people on both sides are coming from. As weird as that is. I don't completely agree or disagree with either.

There not making decision for women. They are making an argument that abortion is inhuman and immoral. There is a huge difference. I really don't wanna get involved in this inevitable shitstorm, but even if you are pro-life, think about this: If you accidentally knock a woman up, even if all precautions are taken, do you really wanna have to deal with a kid you're not ready for? How do you do that accidentally? it's your choice to have sex and you know what the consequences could possibly be so you should be responsible for you actions.

Also by your logic, since I don't have any kids, I shouldn't be able to tell child rapists or people who sacrifice their children to a god, that what they do is wrong, because I don't have any kids and it doesn't concern me directly.


*(whether a unborn kid is still a person is a subject of debate with some people I know, but still)

Yeah I sure wouldn't want the girl to have an abortion, b/c I like to think I wouldn't be selfish enough in that situation to put my own hopes and ambitions above the life a child.

I mean, I would super pissed at myself and would of course not "want" to have the kid, but thats life, and you have to accept responsibility for your actions.

What I don't understand is why people don't just put the kid up for adoption if they can't handle it, isn't getting an abortion pretty the much the same as giving birth, just really early on?

yes i absolutely care more about pandas then I care about tiny alien fetuses whose mothers don't want them.



and since I live abroad and have lived abroad for quite a few years now (and don't plan on returning to the states any time soon) I really shouldn't have gotten involved in this "debate" in the first place because I know how much newschoolers love to prove that they're right about a subject... even when there is no right answer, just various opinions. I stated what I wanted to.. it doesn't mean I'm some nutty feminist. It means just what I said.. I am sick of hearing old ass men who probably haven't had a hard-on in years so actively oppose a choice that should belong to the person carrying the child (ie a woman).

if anyone else wants to debate the awesomeness of pandas... bring it on.

so should a woman who is unaware she is pregnant be charged with manslaughter if she has a few drinks the next day and unknowingly ends the pregnancy? should all miscarriages be investigated as possible murders? because if a developing fetus in the first trimester has the exact same essence and value as a born human, then they should be.

and lets not hate on the ladies in the thread who get indignant over how heated men get on the subject. imagine if a legislature almost entirely filled with women passionately debated about whether or not to allow men to get vasectomies or boner pills. you can argue abortion is different because it involves a third party, but i imagine the feeling for them to be pretty similar

and you are also not a politician trying to pass laws that restrict women's rights.. which is who I am referring to when I say old right-wing men. I don't care about your personal opinion about abortions because as much as you dislike it your opinion will ultimately have no effect on the outcome of the situation (as I highly doubt you are a politician or have any political influence). This discussion is any case moot because it is extremely unlikely that roe vs. wade would be overturned... Unless of course mitt romney wins the election.. then eventually it becomes a possibility if or when the time comes for a new supreme court justice to be appointed. I hope not.. but we'll see. OK that's all from me.

Not sure what your stance is, so this isn't directed at you or anything... But imo government has the duty to protect the rights of all individuals. In the case of abortion, it is determining whether or not you consider the unborn entitled to those rights.

Being a biology major I hate when people say a fetus isn't living or whatever. It is def is without a doubt considered living, so how some people distinguish between living and non living is very ambiguous. I always considered myself pro-choice for the longest time, but after really reflecting on the issue I am not sure what I believe.
