I need to get my new skis mounted and i was wondering how much it usually costs. My local REI says 70$ but i dont know if this is the normal price or expensive.
It depends on the shop, usually it ranges from $40-$75, most shops give a discount if you bought your skis, bindings, boots or any combination of the 3 at that shop (some even include mounting if you bought 2 or 3 of those items there).
Tha does seem very expensive. Genrally if you buy the ski and binding from the shop it will be free. If you did not buy from them, it will genrally be $30-40. $70 is way to much
My shop charges $15 for an adjust/plate mount, $25 for a true mount, and the tech's are amazing. I'd never pay more or go anywhere else. I worked the service desk so I saw pretty much every single pair of skis that went in and out.
mounts and little service stuff like detuning are where shops can really rip off the average gaper cause most people have no clue how easy it is to do and how they charge way too much. im not the best at it, but i kinda taught myself how to mount and tune and such and i do my friends skis and boards for like max $20 cause thats all it really is. anything over $40 is ridiculous but most shops will charge that.
Thought the same thing. But then I went to this shop where it was cheaper and the did a piss-poor job on my pow skis. So guess I'll just keep taking them to the more expensive place, $35 is fine with me though. Can you haggle on ski mounts?
If you know the tech or someone who works there, just bring him a few brews or a case of redbull. I don't think you can haggle them but a lot of tech's will work for beer.
