All those saying its all hype, you fail to realize that it hasn't even hit land yet -- it was still 205 miles from the coast of Jersey at 11am this morning. Its being recorded as the strongest storm in history north of the Carolinas. I'm in upstate NY, its hardly raining here, yet all our rivers are already flooding. The train platforms are almost underwater. You'll take your words back when it actually hits.

on a bright side mountains in WV are expecting 28-34 inches by the end of the week

A bunch of tree branches hitting my house in CT, nothing too severe. Expecting to lose power around 12:30 or 1 later this afternoon. I'm pretty high up off the ground so water won't be an issue, but these damn trees.

If shit really starts to hit the fan I wanna see pictures! I'm studying abroad in France right now, but I live in Rochester NY and go to school near Pittsburgh, so this is definitely hitting home. So post up some pics!

Also, this is what we did last spring during a big storm. it was awesome. That rapid got huge by night time. we surfed for a couple hours before getting kicked out. GET CREATIVE!

Just got back from a walk down to the east river. It hasnt really started raining yet, just a constant drizzle and heavy wind.
The top of that wall sticking out of the water is normally about 5 feet above the water and set back about 6 feet. Its not crazy yet but the rain hasnt even started.

I'm at college in Central NY right now (SUNY Cortland) and they just cancelled everything after 4pm tonight. I know all the schools around me (Syracuse, LeMoyne, Binghamton) are all cancelled too. I'm just wondering what its gonna be like in central NY/ when its gonna hit.

Can someone with knowledge in the field explain something to me? How are the power grids in NYS connected to eachother? Can a power grid in NYC affect the rest of NYS in the event of a failure?

I dont know if you remember but about 10 years ago a power plant malfunction in New york wiped out power to upstate US, Ontario and parts of Quebec for three days. So yes I would assume it could

Villanova has no classes today or tomorrow and the campus is closed with the exception of residence halls and the dining halls. Right now it's just really windy and raining, but it's expected to hit hard within a few hours. Some of my friend's homes in NJ are already starting to go underwater. A whole 100 year old tree fell in my front yard in Maine.

Just a word of advice to those on NS that are going to get hit by the storm. I would recommend that you charge all of your electronics before the power goes out and try and save the battery life on them incase you need to contact someone incase of an emergency. Social networking mapping is emerging as a very valuable recourse in states of emergency and can greatly increase ones chances of survival. Communication is vital people.
