Your favorite Black and white film photographer?

Ridiculous

Hey guys, i have to do an assignment for a photography class where i write a paper on a Black and white film Photographer that inspires me. Alot of the kids in the class are just picking the first one they can find but I am looking for someone who actually inspires me, Since we have to do an entire section on black and white film photography.

So the question is does anyone have someone who inspires there own work? A mountain/nature photog would be cool but I'm open to anyone. Thanks guys!

Sounds like a really knowledgeable class......

I heard there is this kid named Thomas O'Connell, he's a 3200 whore, but he takes good photos.

For real Hiroshi Sugimoto, Ansel Adams (By far the most famous, invented zone system), and Robert Frank are probably my favourites.

Its pretty sad... Its a HS photography class with mostly girls who use instagram and think there photogs or hipsters that are just taking the class for mad hipster credit.

But thanks for the start everyone so far I'm leaning towards Hiroshi Sugimoto but I would like to find more because so far the more famous ones like ansel adams have tended to be pictures of people and show emotion where I would like to focus my pictures on Landscape and show simplicity as well as the beauty of nature, Although I might experiment with pictures that show people emotion.

The B&W pictures that I've seen and liked are usually of mountains, or pictures that inspire me (like of rock climbing, or pushing for goals, etc) I'm not sure if anyones heard of B&W climbing photogs or landscape photogs but if so tell me.

Um whatt? Ansel Adams is a landscape photographer. I don't think I've ever seen a portrait by him. HCB and Robert Frank are street photographers so more portraiture and architectural work.

Let's bump this.

I really dislike half of Sugimoto's work. The other half I love. Love his nighttime sea series as well as his outdoor theater and drive-in theater series, but other stuff I just find crap.

Adams was a master printer of course. The things that man could do with a negative is amazing. His negatives were sooo thin.

Most older Magnum photographers are simply amazing.
