I agree with you 100% thanks for educating me a lil more on the subject, I appreciate it (might be the only time youll hear that on NSG in a political thread haha). But I have a question for you cause it seems you know a bit on the subject. How does this debt directly effect us even? Yea we owe 1trillion to china, but what does that actually dictate, does it suppress our ability produce or invest? or is it more of just a figure that is brought up often?

THEIR money, their is the keyword, not the governments. the government could utilize the money they currently are bringing in by spending less on stupid, useless programs and whatnot, and utilize it in the important areas. Government spending under the Obama administration is ridiculous. No need to keep taking and taking money from people who earned it.

If they are illegally avoiding taxes, it is no more "their" money than money that you keep by refusing to pay rent on your apartment is "your" money. If you live in America you have to obey the tax laws in the same way that if you live in an apartment you have to pay your rent. Why should we treat tax cheats with kid gloves? They are more than happy to reap all the benefits of living in America provided by the government (if they weren't they wouldn't be here. It's not like they don't have the means to move), when it comes time to pay taxes they need to pay up. I don't like the fact that I have to pay $475 a month to live where I do but thems the rules.

most are not illegally avoiding taxes, if there is proof to say that they are illegally avoiding taxes, they would be prosecuted. i do know there are loopholes in the system that are not considered illegal, i bet you would use those loopholes if you were in their position. who wants to give additional money to the governemnt that the can legally (but frowned upon) keep? i sure as hell wouldnt when i know it is most likely going to useless garbage thats not helping anyone. Obama keeps talking about all these loopholes for the rich, if they are such a big deal to him, why hasnt he taken any action to eliminate them during his 4 years in office?

The primary burden of the foreign national debt is not the principal (the $1.2 trillion) but the interest (the burden of the domestic debt is that it often increases wealth disparity because the people who hold the debt tend to be more wealthy and our tax structure is actually pretty regressive, but for foreign debt the interest is actually taking money out of the US economy and sending it to other countries, which is a greater burden). Right now however, interest rates are near historic lows, so our debt is essentially not burdening us at all. Our relatively high deficits in recent years are entirely a function of the economic collapse, and people who are worried about short term spending in the wake of it are severely missing the point. The thing we should be worried about is long term debt projections, which are mostly driven by health care.

If you actually believe that the fact that many rich people are not prosecuted for tax evasion proves that they are not evading taxes then I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn. It's true that there are many tax loopholes that are technically legal, but I'm not even talking about that, I'm talking about straight up illegal evasion.

Why hasn't Obama worked to close the loopholes? Because he's a shitty president obviously. I didn't vote for him in 08 or this year.

Just curious, but what facts are you basing this off of? The governemnet is money hungry, if they have the slightest hint that someone not giving them money illegally, i would think they would go to town on them. And at least we can agree on Obama lol

Guess what the rich can live anywhere they want a founder of Facebook repatrioted and moved to brazil to avoid high taxes. We can see this happing France where they just upped the rate to 75%. You can taxs the producers all you want but they can afford to leave, once that happens your left with the leaches

The fact that most instances go unprosecuted is a reflection on the ability of the IRS to dedicate resources to investigating and trying the cases. It does not mean that it doesn't happen.

i understand your mommy and daddy have a lot of money so they tell you taxing them more is bad, but for you to sit there and act like taxing a 1,000,000air 30% or more is wrong is ridiculousness. the reason trump or most of the 1% made there money is because they moved to the U.S.A and it gave them the chance, and also because the U.S.A is awesome. therefore they should reinvest back into the country that gave them there wealth not run and flee form paying there fair share. so im sorry who is the leach of America.

**2.5 months, if you count "the rich" as people who earn over $1 million a year. Much more if you use a more realistic figure for the rich, like say over $300k per year.

Of course that's a total straw man either way since no one thinks anyones income should be taxed at 100%, and when we talk about raising taxes on "the rich" we're only talking about marginal rates anyway (which means that if we raise taxes on incomes over $250k a year then someone who makes $260k a year would only pay that higher rate on $10k).

They don't hire the firms to avoid cheating, they hire the firms to find new and creative ways to cheat.

Mitt Romney payed slightly more than he had to because he's running for president and didn't want to look bad, however even then he only paid ~14%. That fact that he thinks that doesn't look bad is laughable. Also, if he loses the election he could refile his taxes, claim the entirety of his charitable deductions and get the money back anyway if he wants.

Yes taking my money and investing in solindra, tesla car, food stamps, and Obama phones. Sound s like a good renvestment in the American dream that these guy were made from. Not more like investment in mediocracy

The department of energy program that loaned to Solyndra has actually had a 92% success rate in it's investments (only 5 businesses out of 63 went bankrupt, much better than was expected when it was started).

Oh and also, the Solyndra loan was started under the Bush administration.

We get what we pay for. If we want to insure our global dominance (just ignore the ethical arguments here to further our discussion), we must display our power. It would be preferable for us to have more power right now. We are struggling and its obvious with Afghanistan. Afghanistan has been the end point of many imperialistic armies.

But on to the point. War is a great tool in maintaing power over other nations, but more importantly ourself. Since we established our independence from Great Britain 236 years ago, we have only have 21 years of peacetime. We are also one of the oldest sovereign states in the world. Our long standing Machiavellian power politics has been working for us.


Do you have a better suggestion?
