Hes a business man. He would be an idiot to not have his product made in China. Im also pretty sure him manufacturing ties in China isnt the reason were 16,000,000,000,000 in debt with them.

Lets be clear. I am not calling him an idiot for his political views, his business decisions, or anything else, but the fact that he goes out of his way on national T.V. to rail against China and say that we have to stand up to them when he knows he will be promoting a product made in china is hilarious.

any business man is going to go with the cheapest possible route to manufacture their goods to maximize profit. If canada was cheaper he would have them made there, if the us was cheaper he would have them made here. Even if i think that country is doing something wrong, i would still import from there because it is less exensive.

Well the way I look at the interview was that he is just saying he supports Romneys stance on china, and we are getting railed by china. It has more so to do with getting a ton of our ideas stolen by chinese companies then manufacturing products there. I do think a lot of the shit trump does is retarded tho.

We are not even close to $16 trillion in debt to China. China's central bank only owns about 8% of the total US debt, which is about $1.2 trillion.

I think the more important thing to take away from the subject of Trump is that he's attempting to extort/blackmail (so to speak) the president, and that's just unacceptable. The rich and elite manage to dictate every which way this country goes as it is. Clearly if they want to, they can buy their way into political power... I guess up until recently they've done a much better job on being discrete about using their wealth to gain political power. Trump's attempt to bribe Obama with a 5 million dollar charity donation is so painfully transparent it makes me want to vomit all over the national mall.

Whats wrong with america is that people like OP can watch something like that video, a two minute news clip about a completely irrelevant subject from a media source notorious for spewing unimportant bullshit just to make people angry, and then form a passionate opinion about it. that is so much more fucked up and problematic than the fact that some rich white guy had his ties made in china.

No, our total foreign debt is about $5.3 trillion and China owns about $1.2 trillion of that (~22.6%).

Japan also owns about the same amount as China.

True, but consider the fact that the GDP of the US is about $15.1 trillion a year, the total assets of the US economy are about $190 trillion (and could be much more considering how good the rich are at hiding their money), and the problem seems less scary. The reason that China buys all those treasury bills is partly to raise the value of the dollar index which incentivizes Americans to buy goods manufactured in China. What we should really do, is start doing the same to them so our dollar can fall and our trade deficit can move towards being balanced.
