Restaurant Job Help??!? Please!

Okay, so I work weddings and other banquets and a golf course and restaurant. Tomorrow I am working a wedding from 4-2 and recently found out that my sister is coming home from college and my whole family is going out to eat. On top of that my boss is a complete bitch and treats me like shit.

Would it be bad if I email her tonight and say sorry but i quit, even though I don't have another job? (I am pretty sure that I am getting one this week, hopefully)

Have any of you quit without notice, or 1 day notice, and not had another job?
Please help me

I would say suck it up and work until it's guaranteed you have the other job. Sure would suck to burn a bridge and be left with nothing on the other side. Also, quitting via email is kind or shitty.

Call in sick (who cares if your boss doesn't like it, you're quitting anyway) but save the quitting for when you actually have another job lined up.

My last restaurant boss was a total bitch, but I'd never leave her hanging like that. Not for someone else's wedding. Its their wedding day, not your boss's. Suck it up and do the work, bail @ 4.

i start at 4.. and i know that's why i don't wanna quit.. although it's not like it'd ruin that wedding, it'd just take like 5 minutes longer for them to get their food

I know it sucks dude, but this is a prior obligation that you have - don't leave on bad terms. You never know when it'll come back to bite you in the ass. Obviously going out to each would be the fun choice, but you need to be responsible.

food poisoning ftw! its the best because it only lasts 24 hours most of the time and then your fine. plus nobody will ever ask in detail about might ask where you think you got it from but that's about it. when call in call early in the morning while your still lying down and say you can try to come in later but probably wont be able to, which they should say back no thats fine just rest up

my boss will think i'm lying because i've called in sick like 5 times.. but i just wanna quit without feeling bad. and for the people who say that it will bite me in the ass.. do i have to put them down as a former job?

of course she will but what can she do, tell you to come in anyway? thats why food poisoning is the best because you need to be within 5ft of a toilet at all times, which isnt exactly ideal for a kitchen job

Hey I also hated my job, never wanted to go but they needed me, if u don't want to go just call and say that u have a school related thing or something like that, usually they don't get as mad as calling in sick

I quit my job on one days notice and it turned out to be one of the best things I ever did. However, I obviously burnt the shit out of my bridges there and I can't use them as a reference, which doesn't really matter cause it was just a grocery store. So unless you're sure you have another job or that this won't come back to bite you in the ass, I would say put in your 2 weeks and then you can at least get a reference out of that place.

yeah but you can't use this job as a reference if you quit, and when hiring people a big thing that empolyers look for is that the person is coming from working, not from being unemployed. So what are you gonna tell your next job you did while you were working for this bitch lady? since you aren't putting her down, you probably don't want to mention it because then you have to explain that you left on bad terms etc. etc.


Also, coming from someone who works in food service, if your counting on somebody to show up and they quit no notice, especially with an email or something the night before, it really sucks major balls. Had a girl do that on us this summer, she fucked up over on one of the busiest nights of the week. If I ever ran into her at a bar I would absolutely whip my cock out and slap her across the face before leaving her with my tab shortly thereafter.

Hand in 2 weeks notice. When you get another job, let her know and she might be alright with giving you the last bit of your notice off.

Because if you quit and cant get another job your fucked.

If you've already called in sick a bunch of times I'm sure she realizes you're a crappy employee and emailing or calling her to quit out of the blue won't come as a surprise. Just get it over with, you'll be able to live with yourself. How is it any different than the past times you've called in sick? You were probably on the verge of getting fired anyway.

If it doesn't go well at my shift, I am going to walk out on the spot.
If it goes well, I am going to try to be the last one out, and slip this under her door.
If that doesn't work, I am going to call and email her.

Honestly this. Two weeks notice is the standard. Giving notice the day of is really inconsiderate. Unless you have some real emergency, which you don't, you should just suck it up for another 2 weeks. I'm sure you don't work every day...you're probably a high school or maybe a college kid, so you probably only work like 15-20 hours a week anyway. Just deal with it and don't screw everyone over.
