Recommend me a pocket knife

I have decided that I need to get a pocket knife for everyday carrying. No, not for defense but as a tool. I'm looking for a single locking blade, 3 to 4 inches. I like stainless and wood. If not a particular knife, can anyone recommend a good brand? I'm looking to spend under $35. And go!

gerber has some sick knifes.

I like leather mans too but thats more of a multi tool than a single blade knife.

SOG is what my unit carried in the Marine Corps. (3rd Light Armor Reconnaissance out of 29Stumps) We all got a great prodeal on them, but they proved to be a great tool for many needs. Its the utility equivalent to Wusthof kitchen knives.

Sog, gerber, CRKT all make great knives. Just keep an eye on the clymb, I got my last sog knife on there for 12 bucks.

This knife will change your life straight up. Best knife I have ever seen/used. Its simple, not too much shit but perfect for everyday use. I carry it with me everywhere and it comes in handy soooo often

-Cerated Blade

multi tools are really handy. if you're just looking for a knife though, get a gerber.
i prefer sog over leathermans. the gear system makes it open easier. whatever you get, try and get a half serrated blade. flat blades are limited in their applications, they cant cut through like cloth straps as easily as a serrated edge can (at least thats my experience)

This.  Don't be in a rush and between SAC and the Clymb, etc. you should find something cheap and awesome. 

Also if you're hot to shop, just hit up your Army/Navy Surplus store, they always have a selection of shit like that.

Buck, And CRKT,gerber, and schrade would be your best options for a good knife and want to stay in your price range. In my opinionbuck being the superior of the group. I still have 2 fixed blade skinners and a pocket folder from my grandfather that were produced by buck. I also like CRKT because there knives are pretty badass, but i detest that they are made in taiwan.

Buck and spyderco make some good knives for under $30 same with gerber. If you really wanted to spend some money benchmade makes incredible knives but those are all well over $100 but its money very well spent.

Another vote for the leatherman...why get just a single blade knife? If your looking to carry the knife as an everyday tool you might as well get a multitool and for the money you simply can't a leatherman - it just comes down to preference of what model you want from them.

Here is the leatherman wingman I carry everyday - the thing is awesome and you can get it on amazon for only $25

OP do yourself a favor and pick up that Buck 110, simple, great knife. It was the first knife my dad bought me and I still have it. The thing is bombproof, it has good weight to it and comes with a belt strap which is actually useful when camping. Totally worth its 30-40 price tag

im quite a fan of the glock g17 9mm. works particularly well when motherfuckers insist on snaking my lines. i find that knives dont quite work as well when ur not within a 4 foot radius of them.

Opinel knives are awesome. they are super cheap (only about $15-20) but the carbon blades are, in my opinion, significantly better than most gerber and SOG blades. they hone extremely well considering how inexpensive they are. as long as you dont have a burning desire for a serrated edge, the shape of the blade is really nice and comes with a sharp point. they have a twist lock which is super simple and basically impossible to break, and the wooden handle has a really strong feel. the cons are that wood can be difficult to care for, especially in wet conditions. also the carbon blade is not as resistant to weathering as stainless steel, so it will darken and rust a bit, but as long as you exercise some care it wont be too bad. that being said, they only cost so much so if it is in really bad shape you can just buy another one!

keep in mind, the knife industry has a lot of bullshit. half of the times if you buy a knife from a big named company (think coleman, SOG, Buck, etc.) its going to look really cool (think black painted blades, fat serrations, finger grips) but the components are shit and the blade is cheap steel. a lot of those companies do make really good high end knives but its not really worth it when other small companies like opinel can turn a better product for a fraction of the price. I'm a culinary student and ive worked in the kitchen industry for a while, so i know the difference between a decent knife and something that just looks badass.

op, if you can, have a feel for the knives first, try to wiggle the knife perpendicular on its folding axis and see if it has any backlash, feel how the closing and locking mechanism works, you can immediately tell when you're holding quality or not .....
and make sure you like how it feels in your hand ....

also, if you want a really strong and sharp knife, stay away from stainless steel

here's my everyday carry, i switch between this and my black leatherman wave

I have two of these and I love them. Also, Kershaw makes some sick no bs knives and you can find them on steep and cheap sometimes. I have this knife and it is sick.

Not that this will help but.....

There used to be a TV commercial that offered about 200 knives for around 300 bucks. A friend of mine bought the deal for his company. Came with all sorts of blades ranging from Bowie and pocket knives to swords, machetes. One of the better deals out there. Not sure if they still offer it...

Anyways,

Gerber has always been great for me. Prices are pretty good. Their "Alaskan Guide " series is fantastic.

I just picked up a Gerber multi-tool on the clymb last night for 35. I didnt do much research but Gerber seems like a good brand. But check out the clymb every so often, they have good deals on knives and camping gear and stuff, also theres ton of skis on right now from ninthward, 4front,

cept mine doesnt have the cutter blade on the end of the handle. its a quality knife, stainless and durable. i use it as my every day knife and for work.

its all stainless so it doesnt feel like its going to break like my other knife (a sog).

got one of these when I was a kid from my grandpa. It's a pretty sick knife and it has some sentimental value.

I guess they closed in 2004 and someone bought the rights to the name. They are made in china now.
