Nice assumption but you're wrong. I've helped my dad over the past 10 years with so much shit on that truck. We've done the lift together, replaced a head gasket at 200k, installed a lift pump, changed out the gas tank, rerouted the turbo and all of its piping on the new motor, dropped the transfer case and reassembled it with a aluminum front half instead of the magnesium old, put a locker in the front and rear, i've changed the brakes and done the basic maintenance countless times, we've dropped the tranny and fixed some bugs with that, replaced the CV joints, replaced a bad hydroboost, the list goes on and on. That truck has never once been into the shop to get something fixed that was broken. We do all of the maintenance and work on it ourselves.
So yes I do know my way around the truck and have pretty much taken most of it apart and put it back together at some point or another. I participated in the majority of the engine upgrades after school and know my way around the motor itself very well.
Right now, its right below 1100 horsepower AT the rear wheels and has over 2400 ft lbs of torque. We sled pull it and every time there's a cummins or a powerstroke with that much power at an event, It is hauled on a trailer just because they aren't street friendly when they produce that much power. We drive ours to the track, pull it, drag it, whatever, and then turn around and drive it back home averaging 18 mpg on the freeway if you drive it a light foot. I've driven it to school and all around town and never had any problems and you wouldnt even know it has all that power until you step on it at 50 mph and proceed to fish tail as the tires break loose. The duramax is much better at handling upgrades than a cummins or powerstroke and it is quite a bit cheaper to get horsepower out of.
For instance, the rebuild of our motor if we wouldve not helped at all and just let Industrial Injection do it would be right around 30k. To get the same amount of power out of a cummins or a powerstroke, they were quoting more than 40k just because theres more internal modification required to handle the power whereas the duramax is sturdy enough on its own.
We used to own a Powerstruggle i mean Powerstroke and its just night and day difference between it and our Duramax.
