K2 Obsethed sizing

O i'm considering getting these:

But I have two options, get them for 25 dollars more, size 169
Or pay a little less and have them be 179s
I'm 5'11" 180 LBs
I want to use these for some pow, park and carving, I am leaning towards the 169 because my home mountain is 500 vertical feet.

So what is the right size for me?

Definitely go 179.

They ski so much shorter than they actually are due to the massive powder rocker in the tip and tail. I made the mistake of getting the 169. It works but you won't be as confident as you would on the 179. I'm 6 feet, 145 pounds and got the 169 over a year ago (it worked but once I started doing more difficult terrain I wasn't as stable as I would have been if I bought the 179). Just upgraded to a 183 Bent Chetler and am currently looking to sell the 169 Obsetheds.

Definitely no shorter than a 179. Agreeing with ^^ they ski shorter with so much rocker. You could probably go 189 with your size and if you are fairly aggressive but if you want a little better park and all mountain performance plus being a little more forgiving in tighter spaces 179 should be just fine.

To sum it all up:

Go 189 if you're charging steep lines and/or if you're still growing
Go 179 if you love to ski the trees and want a more playful ski

They're have a pretty soft flex so I wouldn't go off any huge jumps on them. And I've heard that it's tough to clip back into a Look Pivot when it's caked with snow.

We don't get much pow in the Midwest anyway. I'm primarily using these for a park/all mountain ripper that will be fun all around. I want something different from my revivals (which I will also use).

They will suck in the park. The ski is designed for big mountain/powder skiing. If you want a ski for park get something with under foot less than 95.

Heres something that would be good for park/allmt. Has rocker so size bigger than what you think you need.

I want something different, I have revivals, which are 90 underfoot , so I decided to go with these to improve my quiver of one.

*i haven't purchased them yet. I'm also a certified ski instructor, and one of the main things I teach is dynamic carving, if that has anything to do with this. But, I will bring both skis every day.

i had a mate with a pair of these and he took them through the park every now and then (only because he couldnt be fucked to grab his park skis) and says they were pretty horrible. tbh they will be way too wide, they r a huge ski with huge amounts of rocker so if u took it off any decent sized jumps u would wash out..

A big Thanks to everyone for the info. But I would like to hear from someone who has used them in the park. I am not a super hard core park skier. I hit the park for about 2 hours every time I ski. The other half I'm charging down runs making GS turns, if that clarifies anything.

I have the 189's so cant comment on park. but they willl suck. this is not the ski you want. Seriously if you get it you will be very disappointed.

You should look into something between line blend or Salomon Rocker 2 108...for what your skiing, stay in between 100-110 if you want to go wide.

Idk why you would want something wide for midwest...it will make you look cooler sure, but you wont have as much fun.

The obsetheds are terrible at park (they are not symmetrical) and at making GS turns on groomers. They are up there as one of the worst skis for someone who skis a 500 ft vertical hill in the midwest. Be realistic about where you ski and get something <100 underfoot and preferably <90 that is designed for park and all mountain, for example the 4FRNT MSP. Or if you like a fatter ski in the park and are willing to give up groomer performance get a soft symmetrical ski <110, such as an older pair of line elizabeths or K2 Kung Fujas.
Or if you are getting a pair of fat skis just so you can show off to everyone at the mighty Mt. Wilmont man up and get a pair of super fattys, like the DPS lotus 138 or ON3P pillowfights. Because everyone knows you're just a gaper if you don't ski the latest, fattest, most rockered ski anywhere in any conditions.
And this is coming from a guy who's daily driver is 116mm under foot... GO SKINNER WITH LESS ROCKER.

You say be realistic about where I ski, and that is exactly what I'm doing. I ski in the Midwest, I want to change it up, and go for something to have fun. I want to butter around hit some rails and carve all over. I have a pair if traditional skis you are all suggesting, revivals. I need info on what they are like in the park, from someone who rode them there. Not someone who thinks they know what they're talking about.

Your the one who's not understanding. No ones rides them in park cause they are meant for Powder. The ski is 146/117/134 for size.
Can you ride it in the park? yes. Its a ski. You can ski on it. Can mount water skis and ride them down Alaskan cliff sides? Yes. It's a ski. You can ski on it.
Does that mean it's gonna work well in the park. NO.

The Obsethed ski is not made for park. End of story. But if your looking for justification to buy here you go. OP buy the Obsethed for the hills in the Midwest. you'll love it.

Park/ All Mtn is the exact opposite of what these skis are meant for. There is almost zero camber underfoot. The ski is mostly rocker which means minimal edge contact which means BAD on hardpack/ park/ groomers. Trust me. I have a pair of these skis and DO NOT use them unless my ski area gets 4+ inches of snow.

Didnt get to finish in my last reply... I was saying,  check out the blister gear review, the most desriptive and informative reviews of all skis I have found. What many otherrs are saying is true, its not a park ski, but a big mountain pow ski.  But its prformance on laying carves on groomers at high speed is reviewed as one of its strong suits( considering it 117 and large rocker profile). Also , read all reviews for the 2011 model too, same chasis frame construction, just different graphics. The obsethed transformed to its current 117 in the 2010 -20111 season, and remainded the same chasis in 2012, now this year discontinued, changed to the sideseth. anyway, also check out evo.,com personal user reviews of the 2011,  has 16 and the 2012 has 6 reviews ( again, all the same chasis) My main point here is you mentioned you were a certified instructor, that being said, I would assume you are a expert carver, former gate basher, and bumper! growing up in the "old days" when we actually learned how to ski and CARVE, not just skid down the mountain! We did it on 65mm Pre's with full camber, no shape, straight as an arrow! wow thats oldschool! skinny skis were made to slice groomers, and bash bumps, but we still learned how to choke in a powder feild on the old 65mm, and loved every turn doin it! If you fit into this description, then you will have a blast at finding the versatility of the obsethed!  Your still going to want to use your revivals at home, so dont retire them just yet. I picked up the obsethed mainly for my western trips ( 2-3 times a year), but find use in midwest can be fun when anything but boiler plate!  You may want to look into two other skis with very solid reviews; tthe LIne Influence 105, and the Rossi sickle! Aimed more as a ALL MOUNTIAN, with much less rocker! again, great blister review. The Influence was my choice, but sales rep influenced me ( no punn intended lol) to go bigger rocker, and push extremes to totally different rocker feel on skis ! also , it was on a cheaper sale, so I went obsethed... and now I am obsessed wikth them!!  Good Luck !

OP are you a fucken troll or what. This ski is gunna suck in park, and suck in the midwest. and your gunna look like a fucken douchebag with big mountain skis flapping around on your fucken bulletproof hardpack.
