Motorola Phones

So as you may or may not have heard, Motorola is not extending 4.1(Jelly Bean) to a lot of their phones. I happen to have one that will not be receiving the update, which is the Atrix 2. Sucks because it was released just over a year ago, so I see no reason to not update it.

To the point! They are offering a $100 credit to update to a new phone which will receive updates. I have a few questions though that I couldn't seem to find a definitive answer on the interwebs:

1. Will it extend my contract? I've heard yes and no.

2. If your familiar with Motorola, you probably realize this type of shit isn't too uncommon. So is it worth even accepting the rebate?

If I did take the deal I would probably go one up to the Atrix HD.

You could root your phone. I have Jelly Bean on my Droid 1.
If you're concerned with your warranty though, then I would get the rebate.
I was planning on getting the iPhone 4 for free and just selling it on craigslist and getting the phone that I actually want.
