if you moved to california (which i would recomend, as it is the best state in the nation) the rent and general cost of living is going to be a bit on the high side. of course you would have to factor in roomates and whatnot, which could diffuse the cost of living. then you have to ask if you have to live in a ski town. if you were to live in truckee, or tahoe city or the equivilant, then be sure to get some roomies, as finding a good paying job is... well, we all know ski resorts dont pay in gold.
if you could stand living a little distance away, like 30 or 40 min, you could check out reno, nv. the job situation is going to be drastically improved there, but like i said, youve got a 30 min drive to the north shore areas. MT. rose is less of a drive, so it depends on where you want to ski. theres also some little towns on the california side like colfax, or auburn, which are maybe a 40 min and 1 hr drive, respectivley. rent threre if bound to be cheaper than tahoe as well, although you wouldnt have a ton of night life or anything like that, because they are pretty small towns.
so, if youre interested, check out the areas mentioned above, or if you want, you can look at sacramento as well, which is an hour and a half drive roughly, but its pretty central in the way that you can get down to san francisco easily, and to the mountains easily. and it would be easy to get a better paying job than in those other little towns.
so thats my two cents on california.
if you wanted to move to utah, well, depending on where you moved living can be dirt cheap. so check that out too.
