I've been into photography for years and I want to start filming now. I was looking at a t2i, but it seems like the Panasonic GH2 is a better option for me. I already have a tripod, glass, etc. so all I need is a body. Is there anything I should know about the GH2 before I jump on it?
Get what you can afford, shooting now is better than saving money and not shooting. Buy used, good lenses also hold their value more than bodies. Keep in mind the body is just one thing you need. Still need multiple lenses, a good tripod, mic, etc....
Someone know the answer to this? In the gh2 crop mode, it's about 5.2x crop on a 35mm FF lens. I'm guessing (but would like to confirm) that the sensor is smaller than s16 film/sensor size (meaning you could use a s16 lens)
I'm considering switching to DSLR video. I'm into making short films, but I also film a good amount of skiing, skating, etc. I considered buying the GH2 and hacking it, but I realized it lacked 60fps at 1080 resolution. This is sort of a draw back for filming action sports. The other option I've considered is a T3i. The GH3 is most likely out of my price range. What do you guys think?
Just get a GH2. Its better video wise than the t3i. Obviously, the GH3 is gonna be better than the GH2, but id still take either over a t2i/t3i if your really looking for a strictly video camera.
Honestly, it's not that big of a deal to not have 1080/60p. I THINK the GH2 doesn't use line skipping so 720/60p from the GH2 should look better than the 720/60p from a Canon DSLR. Since the t3i doesn't have 1080/60p anyway the GH2 is probably your best bet.
I disagree. Uploading to vimeo/youtube and even NS is worth it, they all display 1080p. I love having 1080p60 and think its worth it to use the gh3 among other things too
Landis (and others), I found a deal to pick up a gh2 locally for a pretty good price, is it worth getting it with some c mount /16mm glass for mostly tele work (would use mostly in its tele crop mode for the cmount)
The price of an Angenieux 16mm zoom, rails, adapter, body would be less than I was going to spend on the canon 70-200 IS II, would be nice to have the canon for photo, but I've seen some great stuff from those angenieux (specifically those TGR samples, what are your favorite ange zooms?)
