Center mounting Halos.

I have just got last seasons Halos. I have STH 16s ready to be mounted but am unsure whether to go center or 2.5 back as is factory recommended. I am 5'11, medium build and as I live in the Uk, ski about 90% park (indoor). I have Afterbangs center mounted and feel that I Should just go center mounted again. Thoughts?

For almost exclusively park you could go center, and everyone else on NS will tell you to do just that. I don't like center-mounting non-symmetrical skis, so my advice is to go 2 or 2.5 cm back. To me the skis feel a thousand times better like that.

yes for a semetrical skis like the afterbang it would be stupid to mount anywhere  but center. the halos on the other hand are not symmetrical which is why the rec mount is -2.5.  If you were to mount them dead center they would feel extremely short in the noses.  I mounted mine at -1 and i wouldnt go any closer to center than that..

I'm not a big fan of either 2.5 or centre.. I like my skis mounted 1-1.5 cm back, as to me this is the most versatile mounting positon. I find 2.5 back you will have to adjust to rails quite a bit, and skiing backwards is kind of a pain in the ass as far as maneuverability. Centre is great for big jumps, but I find with just normal skiing you don't get the same reaction out of the ski as you would with a further back mount. You will notice this especially in powder, tips will go under, quick turns are harder.. As the other guy said, center is for only park.

I just went for -1.25 on me .... haven't skied on them yet though , have about another month :(

No sir, I got mine mounted center last year and it was terrible I got them mounted -2.5 back and the rocker makes em feel closer to center

I ski fast switch and hit large jumps and other features switch and do a lot of spinning while I'm at it and I couldn't see myself skiing anything but dead center. I mount all my skis, park and pow dead center. It's just my style and what feels right to me, but I'm guessing I like to ski hard switch a lot more than most people, even park skiers.

and to validate this post, I skied alpha 1's most of the year last year and had them center mounted, liked them a lot except for their inability to nollie hard, they have no tip shovel so when you nollie the tips just dig straight into the snow and send you over the front... it sucks a lot.

Ya I got mine mounted at 2.5 back recommended because the guy at the shop convinced me that if I went center that it would take away from the elf shoe tech and stuff of the ski also the reason I went 2.5 back is because who should I trust more me or armada the designer of the ski. I think they know what there talking about so I just trusted that haven't skied on em yet but cant wait to try.

Mike Hornbeck has them centermounted... so there obviously not terrible but for mountain I would do inbetween center and -2.5

Armada posted about mounting in this thread: https://www.newschoolers.com/ns/mobile/forumread/id/701787/. It's about ar7s, but it's a similar issue as ar7s are recommended 2.5 back and some people mount them center. Armada staff posted:

Recommended is -2.5cm from center. As the previous posters have said, the ski is not symmetrical and mounting them at dead center will put you a bit forward of the sidecut.

However, it really comes down to personal preference and what feels best for you while skiing. For example, Hornbeck skis his at dead center; Tanner usually goes -1/-1.5cm, and still others opt for the recommended, etc.

As for binding recommendations, the majority of our team riders and employees use the Peak Series bindings from Tyrolia (either the Peak 15 or 18).

Other great options include the Salomon STH or Atomic FFG.
