What are your opinions on the state of things?




I personally think we should scale back our police force. Get a nice overhaul to try and bring it back around to what it was intended. I think we should cut down airport security by a lot, and get rid of most of what's in place. I think a lot of what's going on isn't really keeping us safe, but it sure is taking away our liberty.


It's interesting that you have to get rapes to get through security in an airport where you I feel you would be relatively safe regardless, but you don't find any security at all working the subways in NYC at night where you aren't always that safe.

Not saying we should get rid of everything, but that we should find a balance. $.02

I have never gotten raped by TSA. People that do are dumbasses. Just be polite and helpful. Believe it or not there are many people out there who are not out to get you. Just don't be a dumbass. And here comes the 14 year olds saying fuck the police....

Um, you still have to go through a ridiculous amount of security. I didn't mean you get honestly raped. A little sack gropage, but no rape. I didn't say they were all out to get you, I just think that level of security is completely unnecessary. Regardless of "being a dumbass" or not, you still have to go through an insane amount of security. Looking at my ball sack in some room is not helping to keep me safe.

I don't believe we need more or less people enforcing laws/rules, but we desperately need more intelligent ways of doing it, and fewer nonsensical laws.

This guy's got it right. Who knows how many people we need to do it if we don't know how to do it properly. We need to redesign the way we implement and create laws before we start reforming the jobs.

I think less government would be great. I heard that like 60 years ago 4% of US employed citizens worked for the government. And now it's up to 50%

can't reference that at the moment.

and to hit upon what we just discussed in the other thread, that doesn't necessarily mean the people on the streets enforcing them need to be smarter. They'll do what the training tells them to do, so that's what needs to be changed.


The TSA is a whole different story. The entire thing needs to be disbanded and reformed completely differently.

I feel like a change in the upper tiers of the departments is what's necessary. The individuals calling the shots are the ones that are motivated by a bigger pay cheque or promotion, and all of these are driven by the numbers put up by their task force.

Contrary to popular belief on Newschoolers, 99% of the time the lower ranking officers on the streets are NOT out to harass you and abuse their powers, they're out there to meet their ever inflating quota, get their pay cheque, and keep their job.

I have never been raped at an air port or even patted down. The way things are now are for the best. If everyone traveled correctly, we wouldn't have issues and the lines would move much quicker.

As far as security at subway stations 24 hours, it isn't needed. The only people who get robbed on the subway are the people who flash their i phone or expensive gadget and the people drunk coming home from the bar. If you know your surrondings and are aware you will be at anytime of night. Whenever going back to my apartment drunk at 3am-4am, I take a cab all the way to the Bronx. If it is close to 5am, I will just wait for the Metro North and take that. If you don't think the subway is safe, you have other options.

Riding the subways is far more dangerous than flying. And that's even if your stripped the fuck out of the tsa. If you think airports are more dangerous than subway stations you're kidding yourself.

And I don't have a problem riding the subway. I know my way around ny well enough. I'm just saying that it's far more dangerous than the airport. That's a simple fact.

Cops keep me safe as fuck and it will be funny in 25 years when confidential documents on how many terrorist attacks were thwarted do to security measures in place. Yeah some cops are cock suckers, but so are som bankers, firemen, teachers, electricians, etc. people are dicks not cops. Again they keep me safe. This is coming from a person who spent a week in jail even though I was 100% innocent. I like the comfort of flying knowing at least that some measures were take to protect me, body scan me, swab my hands, yadda yadda. If you were on a flight headed for a building on 9/11 you'd ask yourself how the fuck these guys were able to board the plane with blades. I will say many changes needed to be made in laws regarding a persons property and ability to do what they want with their body. But I'm all for cops and tsa even when they're cocksuckers because if my school is being shot up that dick that gave me an mip could be the same guy putting a bullet into a murderers face so I can live another day.

I might be crazy, but I don't mind giving up some of my liberties to certain safety concerns. If the TSA wants to do ridiculously thorough procedures to prevent any highjackings/attacks, so be it. I'm kinda for the principle of if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to worry about. Also, in regards to less police; no. Maybe a bit of reform, but we need police. Just today didn't someone try and blow up the Federal Reserve? The fact that there has been 15 terrorist plots targeting NYC alone since 9/11 is alarming. People forget that there are people out there that will not hesitate for one second to kill you and your family.

If you have nothing to hide you shouldn't mind us putting cameras everywhere, searching people without probable cause, and putting extra police all over. Well that already happened. But we should just put cameras everywhere except bedrooms and bathrooms, quadruple our police forces, and ad random checkpoints all over throughout the country. If you have nothing to hide that should be no big deal.

We're pussies. We bitch and moan, make a facebook status or 2 and then we get used to it, and it becomes normal. Then there's another change, we bitch about it a little bit, maybe get a bumper sticker, then we get used to it and it becomes normal.

Sometimes I agree with you, but sometimes you come off as a crazy libertarian who thinks the world should be a God damn free for all. Personally I don't give a fuck if I have to wait an extra 10 minutes and get a little uncomfortable with a TSA agent if that means some jihadi won't be smuggling a shoe packed with C4 and popping a squat next to me in 34C. And as for police, yeah major law enforcement agencies aren't?t doing everything right but at the end of the day I feel safer with a few patrol cars roaming the streets with an eye out.

From a security standpoint? AS far as transportation they're both pretty fucking safe. Not very many people die on commercial airlines or subway crashes.

Subways are pretty safe. Out of the 4 million people who take the subway in NYC each day, only 102 have died in the past 94 years. Quick math: 0.00297 people die each day in the subway in NYC, which gives you a less than 1 in 1,346,801,346 of dying in an accident in the subway in NYC :) Just estimates, not the actual statistic but it would be something like this.

Sorry if I don't take the orange level of terrorism seriously. Most of the shitty laws and security we've gotten has been to keep us safe from the terrorizers. We're going to keep getting new stricter laws while the news tells us about how awesome there working and how many terrorists plots they've kept from taking place.

I mean hell, lets have cameras to record literally everything. We will eventually but lets just cut the bullshit and do it now. Make on star like systems mandatory for every vehicle(for safety of course) Then the police or whoever can make sure that nothing bad happens to us at any point and if something does well we'll have video footage of it and if they try to get a way in a car we can stop it, or whatever else. I'm not a sci fi writer or I'd add some other stuff in there because fuck, why stop with the small shit.


I mean if it's in the efforts of keeping us safe, can there ever really be too much? I mean what kind of sick bastards want us to live in danger?

I never said I wanted to get rid of them. We don't need more, it wouldn't hurt to have less, and regardless we need a massive overhaul of the system. I'm not anti cops, I don't think the majority of cops are bad people, but the system is broken, and they're following that system. The checks in place for the shitty cops are pretty lame. You really don't get held to much for standards. I def agree that a police for is good, to protect and serve. We just need limits. Our problem is we just let everything run out of control. If the government wants more power, we give it to them.

Just saying, it's a plus. I'd take a ride on a subway much rather over a plane. You don't really hear about terrorist attacks on subways, because they are much more rare.

Are you suggesting that terrorist attacks on planes are in anyway common? Honestly bet I could find close to as many "zomg terror plot thwarted" articles about the subways as the airports.

You failed to see what I was saying though. Terrorism really is the smallest threat when riding the subway. Robbery is probably your biggest problem. That's what I meant with the few deaths =/= no crime.

I wish there was an airline for people that weren't scared regarding terrorists because they went through a much simpler screening system and metal detector, were allowed to bring on drinks, and got on a lot faster. Although then that would be pretty much guaranteed to get sabotaged because there has to be a great reason for all this security. If the news doesn't have terrorist plots to talk about, people aren't as scared, and people that aren't afraid think much more rationally, and many rational people don't like bullshit.

Not really related, but I hate the racial profiling that goes on at airports. A Sikh or Muslim man cannot go through the airport without being scrutinized and having his privacy invaded. I guess the security just thinks that they are the biggest threat in the eye of terrorist defence.

I think Americans should just allow open carry in airports and on airplanes, that way when the terrorists try an highjack planes, other people can just shoot them and stop it from happening. This could have easily prevented 9/11. Also, there would be no need for police if everyone had guns.

Ive never had an issue with airport security...

but on the police I agree wholeheartedly, there needs to be less of them, especially where I live.
I live in Logan, ut straight up mormon town, there is absolutely zero crime so the overinflated police department has nothing to do but hassle people, even when their doing nothing wrong.

I understand the need for the police force, and I like feeling safe, but when they stop you and question you for walking down on the sidewalk at dusk its ridiculous

Well I don't think that was really what he was trying to say.. at the end of the day airlines are a private business and if you don't like their business practices, you don't have to use that business. Even if the TSA is government mandated and regulated. Nobody is forcing you on the airplane. So it's like if you wanna fly, you have to fly by the rules. Sorry it bothers you. And LOL at flying being a necessary part of life. Some people go there whole lives without ever having to step on a plane. It's a necessary part of convenience, not life.

Honestly I avoid flying at all costs. It's the biggest pain in the as. Anything on the east half of the US I'll fucking drive to.

Necessary to life like air and water? Know, but if your job requires you to go places, you can't work that job without it. If you want to travel a great distance it's kind of hard to avoid.

The security at airports got fucked because of the government, not them just being like, yo lets do this.

I think that the police need to be more compassionate, in a lot of parts of europe the police are there for the people, here I feel like 38% of the force is against the people. Many times people say fuck the police and shit because a cop is just doing their job. But there are many cops who abuse there force, however, most of my experiences with cops have been good.

Haha all of you dumping on the TSA are pricks. Security is security get over it. Sure there are obscure examples of bad behavior and misconduct but things like that happen everywhere. The other day I was flying back to school and the nice TSA lady took my bass bow case off the belt after it went through the escalator b/c she didn't want it to get smashed by the other things coming through the belt.

I don't fly that often, but I never found it to be a huge pain in the ass. Somebody sees an xray of your balls or tits who cares. It might be a little weird if you know the TSA agent, but thats unlikely.

And I think that a reason that you don't have to get raped to drive the subway is because it is on a set unalterable path for the most part and if shit goes wrong people can get to you. On a plane your in the air and they can take you where ever they want to.

There is no need for any raping there, but the difference in security is insane. You have homeless people all around you, homeless people busking(which some are actually fucking awesome), and many nefarious characters. No security.
