oh wait, so Gopro didn't already have a high frame rate, HD option in their Hero2 Camera?!?!
Damn......
While this announcement is great, it does call to mind the Hero2 release and the feeling that some of these attributes probably should have come out in that camera.....
as a consumer you wouldn't have known otherwise watching their HD Hero2 YouTube release and subsequent marketing videos. Representing a key product sales point (120 fps option) in advertisements by utilizing TWIXTOR to falsely depict that capability in HD, instead of it's true WVGA quality, without note, is a pretty basic example of false or misleading representations and deceptive advertising. While likely not legally culpable, any reasonable consumer would agree that such tactics are questionable. How no one has highlighted that since the Hero 2's release is beyond me. While advertisement law is a murky area, the FTC regulates that, "what is illegal is the potential to deceive, which is interpreted to occur when consumers see the advertising to be stating to them, explicitly or implicitly, a claim that they may not realize is false and material."
I love GoPro and I think that they are one of the best examples of innovation and new enterprise in the modern market, it just seems like an unnecessary risk for a marketing department and company to take, legal or not.....
some random thoughts as we discuss a new product..... as companies race to constantly bring us the "biggest new thing" in accelerated product cycles it is important for consumers to provide checks and balances.
Can't wait to get this badass little camera into the field, talk about taking it to the big dogs. Canon couldn't offer a 1080p/60p option in the recent 5d mIII release, but GoPro can offer 720p/120p?! Big ups on that Gopro.
