Looking for some input/productive criticism on my business ides.

Hi Everyone. Trying to launch a small brand of specialised liquer out in France, I've got a name, chosen the bottle and have a small local factory that can supply it. All I need is a logo.

The product will be called 'green' and is Genepi, an alcohol similar to both Absinthe and Chartreuse.

Ive come up with a few nice ideas but kinda suck at photoshop. What i've come up with so far is 'green' written in black, a simple clean font like gill sans or vaground but with shoots of leaves and branches growing either up the bottle or out of the word itself, maybe drops dripping off the leaves too.

I'm trying to sell to young skiers, snowboarders etc... And hoping that the name will evoque an image of it being all natural and organic but also of other less legal substances.



Can't offer anything in return apart from maybe some bottle if it ever takes off, any help would be really appreciated!!

Bottom one. I think it looks clean, theres probably someone who will do a much better job than you did. Though I do like what youve done. I would post up the blank bottle so you can have people post their ideas on it. They need a template.

In Europe there are a lot more older seasonaires, who are taking time out a bit later, hoping that maybe an organic image might appeal to older middle class people too.

pay a marketing firm to develop an image for you. it will be the best money you have ever spent.

Maybe later, I don't have the money and I think it would be nice to have a bit more control in the way it looks.

Second layout looks better for sure. OP i think you need to think harder about who might be interested in a product like this. I think your potential demographic is larger that you think. especially if you produce a product that in fact pertains to what the name implies.

also the marketing firm idea isn't bad. The logo's great but depending on the quantity you're having produced a second professional opinion is absolutely something worth considering.

For the moment, when its all looking good enough, i'm only going to have 50 made, the mimimum order of the supply companies, depending on how interested local people are( I'm in a ski resort so lots of british seasonaires 20-30 years old often from wealthy families plus riders/weekend visitors in bars) I'll think about making more. I cant pay money to get it designed when I don't know if ill get any return on it yet. But will definately consider it if I end up making bigger orders.

If you're not gonna pay a marketing company now dont think you will later. If you launch the product and people love it and want more you sell some, get some money then try to redo the logo and rebrand it. You will lose those customers because they will look for the original design.... I think you should spend the money, pay a company. It will be money well spent and you wont have to face the rebranding challenges later.

can't afford to pay a marketing company. And guess I've already got a rough idea of how it should look, just needs to be tweaked around with. Would really appreciate any feedback on the design/ way to change it etc..

Contact Snowcase on here and let him know what you are thinking. He has been working on a solution for exactly this type of thing.

But anyway, one thing to be careful of is what's called greenwashing. Where basically a company tries to appear environmentally friendly while not actually doing anything about it. On a small scale like your company I'm sure it won't make or break you, but on a larger scale it would piss a lot of people off.

Even if you adapted some kind of simple "green" concept like planting 2 trees for every bottle sold or something like that, that would set you apart from the competition and avoid being labeled as scammy.

Anyway, I've spent a lot of time on stuff like this so if you have any specific questions shoot me a PM and I'll try and help you brainstorm a bit.

good post. I agree the name 'green' initially made me think that this product was manufactured through an environmentally friendly process.

but overall its a really cool business idea. i'm sure you've done your research about what french people like to drink etc. hell i would buy a bottle just to try it. also try to set your self apart by doing something. theres so many alcohol choices, i'm much more likely to buy something that sticks out to me. i think you've already done part of this by the bottle design.

Yeah I agree. Would definately have to be consistant and follow up the name with some kind of green scheme. Not to say it's not a good idea but I'd like it to be a different idea to just planting trees, carbon offsetting or a simple percentage of profit donated to charity.... I'll contact Snowcase, see what he thinks. Really useful post thanks!

is the liquid itself going to be green? if so, i see no connection with environmentally friendly and this product. also, 2nd one.

Your first mistake is targeting a such a small demographic. Other than that get a track record and a consumer base, then round up some investors who will pay for a marketing firm and distribution.

I wouldn't say that targeting skiers and boarders is too small of a market, because really the skateboard/mountain biking/whatever other sport really isn't different. In an over crowded market you need to do something to be different.

I don't know alcohol sales rules in France but look in to distributing it through skate stores/indie clothing shops that sort of thing.

And if you use my advice and make it big I'm expecting enough booze to kill a village.

How much would a bottle cost? If your target market is skiers and snowboarders in their early 20s you are going to want to make it cheap.
