Hey guys Im gonna be buying a new/used laptop in the next week or so and I was wondering...What should I get? I have literally no experience in this shit so I dont know the big differances between Apple and PC. Im mostly gonna be using this for schoolwork/ski editing/and a couple games here and there. What do you guys think?
choose whichever operating system you are most comfortable with, both have upsides and downsides. I use PC because you can play pretty much any game, and there is more freedom to mess with the operating system. Also PC's are much cheaper you can get a amazing PC for the price of a high end apple computer. But if you like the look of apple and how the OS works go for that. I wouldnt buy a used PC because tech is constantly changing. So choose PC vs Mac and then buy the laptop that would fit your needs remember just because it costs more doesnt mean its better look at the specs. Heres a good place to start, if your gonna go with windows.
If you're computer retarded (sounds like you might be) get a mac. If you have decent logic in your brain get a windows comp, they're cheaper.
Set a budget and go see what their is in your price range at bestbuy, you could ask for help from the staff, but don't buy anything. Write down the model names of ones you like/they suggest and go hard searching for em on craigslist. You can save yourself a couple hundred by going lightly used/brand new just fell off the truck. I got a brand new macbook pro last year on the cheap, used it for a month, resold it and made $150.
If you're looking for a side-project, build your own. Fun to be had, and you can make a beast computer for a relatively cheap price. Definitely worth a try if you're going to be gaming at all. If not, just buy some average computer.
I have PC, love it. But that is because I know how to use windows. I can navigate it very well, know all the hot keys and shortcuts. It is just much easier for me and I dont feel like learning a new operating system.
I would say get a PC because you can get the same speed and all that as a Mac but for half the price. If you never used one, I would start at PC because then you wont be blowing your money away.
And if you do get a PC, DO NOT GET WINDOWS 8. It is going to suck. From what I have heard it is made for mostly tablets and probably will suck ass on PC. Stick with Windows 7, it is a very solid operating system.
It totally depends on your budget. If you have say $1000 to spend on a laptop a PC would be much better (performance wise/speed wise) for editing and gaming. If you get a mac for $1000-1500 then it will come with integrated graphics (most likely) and will be slower for editing and gaming. So spec wise obviously a PC will get you more for your money but if you drop $2000 on a new bacbook pro retina or whatever you will be happy also.
More like depends on what you want to use it for. If it's anything other than games or demanding applications (video editing or something) I say spend 300 bucks and call it a day. I'm currently using an HP that I got for free when I signed up for Telus TV, I've had it for 2 years now.
If your getting a laptop with today's technology there isn't really a ''bad'' laptop. Its really what you want to do on this laptop. And it looks like you want to get a all around computer. An apple would do the trick if you had the money. But a good laptop for filming is the Dell xps. Also check out hp's there also very nice. But if you want to get a laptop with the best bang for the buck get a Samsung. They wont let you down.
I would look at a MacBook. Not the MacBook Pro, but the MacBook that will now be a couple years old. That's what I have, see if you can find a place with them still in stock, it will be quite a bit cheaper than the MacBook Pro, but certainly a great computer. Mine has been excellent for 6 years now, no problems.
Old Macbooks represent! I have the black one from circa 2007. Fucking love it, and if you keep your software up to date, no problems at all. However, if OP wants to game even semi-seriously you might want to go PC. I have heard that steam does not run on mac.
Also try to get a quad core with a dedicated graphics card too If you can find it. If its just for everyday use and a bit of editing a mac would be fine tho, but the integrated graphics suck for gaming/editing/high perforamce. quad core is basically a must for editing imo.
