Need help uploading to vimeo

Hey guy's. Iv'e done a couple of edit's with my new camera and i guess i'm compressing them wrong cause when i play them on vimeo the picture does not run smooth and seems glitchy.
Iv'e been filming in 1920x1080 60i on a panasonic hmc40. Then compressing it through final cut pro, h.264, current fps, auto key frames, auto data rate and best quality setting.

Here's how it turn's out.

I'm guessing that i'm trying to get the best picture quality on vimeo by not compressing too much, but if i compress it to there recommended settings the picture turns out terrible.
I'm not too good with this stuff so if anyone could help me out that would be awsome.

Yer i tried following the steps on vimeo but when i reduce the data rate that much the picture quality sucks. I wasn't sure if i should shoot in 30p instead of 60i so that it compresses better?

yeah. 60i looks like shit in my opinion. thats interlaced where as 30p is progressive. meaning the 60i is basically shooting two separate 30 frame shots and blending them together. i hate it. its like taking half a picture and putting it with another half a picture rather than taking one full picture. thats what thats doing. and unless you check the box that says "deinterlace source" or whatever, you'll always get that lines and glitchy look. but yeah shoot at 30p definitely.

Thanks heaps for that. I had a feeling that might of been the problem cause i used 30p to film with my last camera and didn't have that issue when uploading to vimeo. The only reason i used 60i was to get the highest quality image, i didn't realise it would turn out like that. Iv'e already started filming some surfing in 30p, so ill test that. I was also looking into getting a hmc150, do you think if shooting both in 30p the 150 would look alot better? I know it's much better in low light but i mostly film on sunny days. Thanks again.

in good light, the 40 is actually sharper than the 150

Yer i have heard that too that's why i went with the hmc40. Not sure what to do. I was also looking at the canon XF100 cause of the dual card slots and 60p recording but like the hmc150 i'm not sure if it would be worth the extra money.

the xf100 doesn't shoot 1080/60p, only 720/60p like the hmc40. it's not worth the money to upgrade to the hmc150 for me. i love how small the 40 is, and the lack of having a wide lens doesn't bother me tooooo much. i have a century .65x which does a good job. don't need XLR audio either, and i have a d7000 for when i want to shoot really low light stuff.

1080i60 is 1/2 the resolution of normal 1080p30 so its much worse.

im not too familiar with those cameras as much but i know that there's one above it that shoots 1080/60p and not 60i. just stay away from anything "i" and always go with "p" cuz its going to be loads better

Thanks again. I should of wrote this thread when i was tossing up what setting to film with. Hey eheath cause you know a lot about cameras, if i was to upgrade what would be the better option hmc150 or canon xf100? Id most likely be uploading to the net and not too worried about low light.

Stick with the hmc40 for now, until it really limits you. I believe it shoots 720p60 so you should be good for now
