Self assigned ip address MAC HELP +K

alright so i recently bough a macbook pro and i love it, but yesterday i got home from school i couldnt get on my home internet. I then went to my networks and it showed that my ethernet cable (which is how I connect to the internet because I dont have wifi) created itself a "self assigned IP address". My question is, has this happened to anyone else and if so, how did you fix it?

more than likely your logic board fried like mine did and you will now need a usb to ethernet adapter. That ethernet port on your mac is now dead.. and its over $500 to fix.

Go to network settings
Click "Advanced"
Click the TCP/IP tab
Click "Renew DHCP"

That should reassign you an IP adress and allow you to connect to the internet.

This happens to me on occasion. It's really only when I go from one internet router to a different and only about 5% of the time.

Anyway, I've found that going to network preferences, then "Assist Me" then running through that fixes it.

Or sometimes I just go to network preferences -> advanced -> TCP/IP and click Renew DHCP

Also, google what type or router you have. There are a few out there that don't work well with certain mac OS's. I recall at&t dsl modems being one of those. In which, you can typically just buy a different router and be good to go.

I took my computer to future shop today and they said its simply an issue that i can have fixed easily by contacting my internet provider. +K to all

power cycle the router/gateway/modem next time, should fix it
