What does camber do?

Excuse my gaperness. What does camber do? What conditions/style are different cambers better for? +k for answers

Most skis have camber. Either full camber, or a rocker-camber combination. Some powder and big mountain skis have rocker only or some rocker-flat bottom combination.

Camber helps hold an edge on hard snow and iced up sections. Skiing uncambered skis on hard snow can be hit-and-miss, but mostly miss.

Camber also helps a ski to have 'pop'.

Read that article OP, it's a good one. A ski could also be compared to a car, where a skis camber is a cars suspension. A purpose of a cars suspension is to keep all four wheels in contract with the road, regardless of how bumpy a road may be. When the wheels stay in contact with the ground, the car retains its control. That's where a ski is similar. Because of a traditional skis cambered shape, it forces the tip and tail down onto the snow, keeping the tip, tail, and a skis edge in contact with the snow, and it leaves the skier in control. Not the best explanation but it should help!

Also when you roll a ski on edge, the increased pressure on the tip from the camber helps with turn initiation
