Hiking

I am going on a school field trip tomorrow to NH. We will be hiking for about 4hrs on a mountain through the trails and up to the summit. I have never really done this before and I need to know what will be good to wear and bring. Idk whether to wear jeans or a khaki pant. Also I will be bringing a bag to add layers as the temperature drops. Can anyone help me out?

Wear whatever you dont mind getting dirty and pack some snacks an something to drink too if you're going to be out there awhile.

Sorry pressed go by accident, but don't wear jeans. Wear shorts if possible. Bring tons of water and granola bars/other snacks. Stay hydrated and if it's sunny enough wear sunscreen. I can't write a ton more on my iPod but make sure to have a good time man!

hiking is for people who can't ride bikes... it sucks...

wear pretty much any athletic shoes, any pants you're comfortable walking in, you get the point.

a few strips of ductape will be your bestest friend in the whole wide world if you start to get hotspots or blisters. Along with that, water, snacks, don't wear jeans. If it's chilly, sweats or trackpants. If it's not, trackpants or shorts.

Have a fun hike, hiking is one of my favorites apart from skiing and biking.

Bring tape to tape your feet, and bring liquor (if you are badass) or candy (if you are a pussy), for those nights in the tent. BRING A PILLOW.

Be sure to bring a tent, tarp, sleeping bag. If you get lost you never know how long you'll be out there. Bring at least a weeks worth of food for everyone on the trip, a HAM radio, two inflatable rafts, anti venom for all types of poisonous snakes that live within ten thousand miles of your hike, crampons and a harpoon gun.

Good shoes & socks are most important. Short sleeve, long sleeve, and lightweight jacket. Gatorade & water. Trail mix, granola bar, apple. Its only 4 hours.

Dude, you're only hiking for 4 hours. You don't need anything special, just use common sense. Sneakers, t shirt, hoodie, comfortable pants or basketball shorts, water, cell phone.

what mountain you climbing? I was just in the whites about a month or two ago.

pretty much like everyone else said, stay away from cotton cloths. the whites are notorious for unexpected weather. it may be sunny and warm at the summit, and an hour later be cold and rainy. rain jacket is a must, along with some kind of synthetic pants, shirts, ect. good lightweight hiking boots are preferable, but based on the length of your hike, anything should really do. i'd carry at least two liters of water with you to stay hydrated.'

for snacks, snickers are the bomb of top of a peak.

bring a camera too, the views are going to be incredible this time a year, with all the leaves changing colors.

Fun fact, many people are deathly allergic to the serum they use in snake antivenoms. In true wilderness situations they tend to recommend against using them because so many snake bites are dry and even if it is a venomous bite you're more fucked if you go into anaphylactic shock than from leaving it alone.

To the OP: food like trail mix, beef jerky, pepperoni sticks and cheese, fruit bars. More water than you think you'll need. Raincoats are good as windbreakers even if it stays dry. No cotton, especially for your base-layer. An extra pair of socks can be a lifesaver as can a thin pair of gloves and toque.

you should get some good hiking boots or shoes like merrels, or something similar thats off brand if your not going to use them that often. as for clothes wear whatever you feel comfortable in and something that's not going to make you chafe. for a bag something light weight but holds what you need, i have this backpack its awsome and has a built in bladder:

i know that its a women's backpack but it would work for anyone.

believe it or not, women's backpacks are actually designed for smaller shoulders and the fact that girls have tits, not ripping on you, and it would probably work just fine, but there are significant design differences.
