Agreed, Red Bull wants to impress and as I realized a few posts up, it's not as well understood as I foolishly assumed.

I've never gone fast that .9 mach, you need special permission to do so and in this stage of training there is no need. I finish in 3 weeks though, so I'm really hoping I can get my first choice. I'm doing well and trying to decide whether to put F-16, A-10, or F-22 first. Leaning strongly towards F-16s.

Well, I have no idea when he reached the 729mph as youtube kept stopping the stream while he was falling, but if he did when he was higher than 11.500-12.000 ft (approximately), then he reached the speed of sound.

Exactly, google speed of sound/altitude and unless he reached that speed veeeeery low (which didn't happen) as long as he was above something like 680-700 mph he broke it

Also awesome that the former record holder was the one giving commands. I did not know that was him when i was watching (live), only until after i got the news message on my phone when i was away. Watching that video was crazy, he went into quite a flatspin at one point
